My first quilt :)

Hello there everyone,

I have just finished sewing the top design for my first ever quilt. It's a very simple design to start with, even though cutting accurately did give me some problems.... I may have cut some strips longer by talking to hubbie, cooking dinner, feeding chook, answering the door at the same time... as you do :D

A bit of trimming here and there, I am finally finished with it, ready for batting and stitching in the ditch.

What do you think?

Podunk Princess 09-05-2013 12:39 PM

You did a terrific job! I love the colors you chose. The pop of black in the center is eye-catching.

lisa in ca 09-05-2013 12:39 PM

My first quilt was that same pattern. Very good job for your first quilt!

Neesie 09-05-2013 12:40 PM

It looks fantastic, from here! Great job!

Chooklady 09-05-2013 12:43 PM

Wow, you lot don't hang about! Thank you for your replies, the black is a dark blue with little gold stars on it, lighting eh?

Anything you would have done differently if you had made it yourself?

alikat110 09-05-2013 01:25 PM

Nice job......

Floralfab 09-05-2013 01:26 PM

You did a great job! Your colors are perfect and the darker squares really pop out. Congrats!!

Lovely quilt! Congrats! It took me a very long time from conception to the finish of my first complete quilt. 19+ years. I made the vow to finish under 20, and then made a few more in the next 6 months....You are much faster! Love the modern yet classic (is that possible?!) look to this quilt. :) Thanks for sharing!

Nice work. Love the arrangement of the blocks - it makes the middle pop.

Your first quilt will always be special, hang onto it. By the way, you did a great job of piecing. Please show us the finished quilt.

I think you did a lovely job and I too like the navy blue strips in the middle area. I think that fabric if you have enough or at least a navy blue fabric would make a great border if your thinking of putting a border around it. It would frame the quilt nicely.

rebeljane 09-05-2013 09:37 PM

Very nice quilt, well done!

nanacc 09-05-2013 10:25 PM

quite an attractive first quilt! And welcome to the addictive world of quilting!

dgeskine 09-06-2013 01:37 AM

My first quilt was also the same pattern and took me 20 more/less years to complete it as well. Machine pieced, hand quilted, stitch in the ditch. Love the layout of your squares, too! Keep up the good work.

Chooklady 09-06-2013 01:39 AM

Well!! Thank you everyone, you are so encouraging :) I have loved every minute of it and yes, I am planning my second quilt, it's going to be a table runner for the garden table for summer lunches (I have added a photo of the fabrics I am using) but not got the pattern figured out yet.

The navy border sounds like a good idea, I was thinking about what colour to choose and it has to be something contrasting don't you think, to bring the blue together.

Plumtree 09-06-2013 02:05 AM

I love the way the middle pops out, Great Job!!!

SueDor 09-06-2013 02:22 AM
