Kim,

You did a terrific job!! Don't you just love all the helpful gals and guys on this forum? Makes quilting a lot less scary for novices.

Keep up the good work!

Sue (also from Wisconsin)

WOW What a nice job! It has great colors!!!

quiltykim 02-22-2010 04:57 PM

Hi Bobbinwinder, I saw your I Can't Believe It's A Beginner and it is just gorgeous! Wow...love the colors and the borders and everything! I saw you mentioned "Turning Twenty" and that is the next quilt I was planning to do. I picked up a Turning Twenty baby quilt kit at one of my local quilt shops so that may be my next project. Otherwise I have a charm square table runner to try...Happy Quilting :) Kim

Great job. Thanks for sharing.

nanabirdmo 02-23-2010 04:08 AM

very, very nice. i really like this quilt. i am putting it on my list to make. i especially like the dark fabric along with the colors. it gives the eye a place to rest and really sets off the quilt. thanks for sharing. i, too can't believe this is your first. love the quilting also.

oh oh! YOU are a natural! MY first quilt sure didn't look like THAT! The colors POP! - I LOVE it!

Great choice of colors. I love it

quiltykim 02-23-2010 11:23 AM

Thanks so much for your nice comments. I can't take credit for the color choices though!! My husband saw the Joe Willie quilt hanging in the quilt shop (JJ Stitches in Sun Prairie) and loved the fabrics so I used the same fabrics from the kit. So the pattern designer gets all the credit for the fabric selection!! The designer is Button Stitch Design.

Good job!! I always like to see the different ways everyone does stitching in their quilts. Very pretty colors.

quiltykim 02-23-2010 06:05 PM

Thanks - this is too much fun! I read your posts - just quilting - about when your husband surprised you with the long arm quilter - lucky lucky!! I would take a long arm quilter over diamonds any day of the week!!! I don't know a thing about them but I "test drove" one at the Quilt Expo here and was amazed...the ultimate machine.

amocha1 02-23-2010 07:22 PM

My thoughts exactly!!
Diamonds are you show but.....a longarm is for life & therapy!! :-D

Quilt show is the best place to test drive all the different LA's
Hoping one is in your future!!

kkbrand 02-24-2010 05:48 AM

I love the quilting technique you did, did you have a quilting bar for your machine so you could keep the lines equal distance apart

Adelaide Girl 02-24-2010 05:49 AM

That is truly one, awesome quilt. Simple and yet very masculine. The colours are great! Your quilting and piecing is very, very good. First Quilt hmmmmmmmm, I think you have been practising LOL!

Keep up the good work, Dianne

Hi! I stitched in the ditch for the initial quilting. Then I used masking tape for the next lines intersecting the diamonds. Then I could take all the pins out and marked the lines with a Clover fine point white marker. Sounds like a "quilting bar" would have been easier...?? I'm not sure what that is but it sounds good!

kkbrand 02-24-2010 07:23 AM

I have one on my machine and it basically is a guide that after yo have quilted your first line then you use the quide as a referece, it is just a bar that is inserted in the walking foot

Jingle 02-24-2010 07:42 AM

Beautiful quilt and really good quilting !!!

wraez 02-24-2010 11:06 AM

OMG that is fabulous and if you hadn't told us it was your first quilt, I would have never guessed!

Great job, love the channel stitching.

Your hubby must be so proud of you and this quilt.

warm quilt hugs, sue in CA
