I just realized that I hadn't posted a picture of the quilt I made with the help of Cutebuns. Without Colleen's help, it would never have gotten finished. It was made for a third-grader in the Chicago area. Quilters for Comfort had sent out an appeal for people to make quilts for a project they were undertaking to make quilts for third-graders at two schools. Foolishly I signed up and then thought, "What have I just done. I've never made a quilt before!" Now, with the help of my younger quilting mentor, I can say that I have.

Great job. I'm sure the child that gets it will be very happy. How brave you were to take on such a project as your first quilt, but you did a very good job. You must have a great feeling of satisfaction.

Thank you all for your kind replies. It was fun making this quilt for Joe, but I am thankful for CuteBuns for the advice and encouragement. The redwork dogs were from Artistic ThreadWorks and stitched out great. I incorporated some of the boy's favorite things and was glad he likes dogs. I have a LOT of dog designs! 8-)

Wonderful job Looks like you have been quilting for few years. That is a terrific looking quilt and such a good cause. You should try the Downy quilt's for kids. They send you the kit and pattern, you just have to mail it back and that is all the cost involved, I think you would love to do these quilts and they are very simple little quilts. Here is the link if you think you would like to do this. http://www.quiltsforkids.org

GailG 05-20-2010 04:27 AM

That is such a great project. I'm glad that you "agreed" to participate. Was there a reason that the third grade class was selected to get quilts?

amma 05-20-2010 04:47 PM

I believe the third grade was chosen because the daughter of one of the women involved with QFC taught one of the classes at the two schools for which the quilts were made. The schools are in a rather depressed area and the children get so little in the way of special gifts for themselves. The quilts were all personalized for each of the recipients and I know that so much love was poured into each little quilt that the children must feel it when they wrap themselves up in their very own blanket.

Thanks. It's a beautiful story. Gave me chills to read it. The children must feel so special.

Hey you did great. I too belong to quilters for comfort although I am taking some time off this year. I have been a member for about 4 or 5 years and have made many a block, embroidered and fillers. I love artistic threadworks also.

JCL in FL 05-21-2010 02:35 PM
