Here is a picture of my first quilt top.

Be kind LOL

I am going to hand quilt a butterfly in the pink and green squares. Thinking of backing in purple and binding in purple. We shall see.

At least I have until April. I will probably need it.

Thanks for looking

Oh my, you picked a complicated design for your first quilt! Sure looks like you did a really good job on it.

Lay out the yellow along the edge and see if you will like that for a binding. It might work. Not sure about purple since I don't see any purple in the quilt. But again, lay out what you want to use next to it and see which fabric you like best.

very nice looks almost antique

denise d 01-07-2011 12:54 PM

Thanks everyone. I will say, I am pretty proud of myself, since I just sewed my first thing ever in November.

I used the 10 minute block tutorial for the quilt.... then modified it to put the diamonds in the middle. Funny thing is I got Susan McNeill's book and sure enough the there is the quilt that I made. Go figure, I thought I was being crafty!! :)

In the yellow portions of the quilt it has lavender/purple and blue/green butterflies and dragon flies.

Very, very nice. You're an ambitions beginner to start with curves, but I guess from here on in, averything else will be a piece of cake!

I am in the hat in my avatar. The quilt is a gift for a friend of mine in Germany. She will be having her in April. As soon as she comes, I am sure we will get a picture. :)

plainjane 01-07-2011 04:08 PM

Great job! The first of many, I hope! :)

Me too. I was too scared to do anything but squares in my first quilt  . Can't wait to see it finished

denise d 01-07-2011 04:41 PM

Are they really considered curves... I rolled the corners in.

Coley Banicki 01-07-2011 04:48 PM

Oh yeah, I just had a closer look. It's like a cathedral window. Still a great effort for a first quilt :-D

Friendly Quilter 01-07-2011 05:29 PM

Beautiful first Quilt.

KatFish 01-07-2011 06:50 PM

Great quilt. Love your butterfly idea for the quilting.

PaperPrincess 01-07-2011 07:09 PM

I've been quilting for a while and still haven't attempted curves. You did a great job!

annieshane 01-07-2011 07:26 PM

Very Cute design. Is this that mock cathedral window pattern where you make just 3 seams? I didn't realize this is the design that evolves. I have started this, but did not like the initial format. Now, I am ready to continue this to completion. Thanks so much for sharing

QuiltingHiker 01-07-2011 07:27 PM

Very cute

ScrapQuilter 01-07-2011 09:37 PM
