Catherine-- did you wash your quilt in a regular washing machine? and if so.. it is a front loading machine or the regular ole top loader? A friend who makes rag quilts said she washed one in a regular machine (for the 1st wash) and it clogged up the plumbing. She suggested taking it to a laundromat for the first run. Just wondering what you did and if you had any troubles.

I read the same note about clogging up her machine and I WAS afraid
at first. My washer is a top loader and yep...washed it twice on regular
cycle..dryed twice..clean vent on dryer each time, but not much lint and
it did just fine, no different than any other load of wash.

how many layers of the flannel did you use? I'm wanting to try my hand at this also. I think that yours turned out great.

I did a jean quilt and I washed and dried it several times, just empty your lint filters. No other problems

I used a med weight flannel cotton..one layer. I found it at wal-mart. It worked perfect!

Love your quilt. I've made rag quilts from the Simplicity pattern#4993, they are shaped like a cat, dog & bear. It said to use cotton batting, which I have done, but I like your idea of the med. weight flannel better, because you could cut everything out at once. When I use the batting, I have to cut the batting smaller than the main pieces, which takes a lot of time. Plus, I'm sure that the flannel would be alot cheaper to make. Thanks for the info.

I clogged up a washer once with a rag vest, I always take my "rag" creations to the laudery mat.
