I hope no one uses that area. It is way to pretty. Just needs to be a picture in a magazine.

jmoore 01-18-2015 05:11 AM

What a wonderful scrappy. So I decided it isn't a string quilt, but am curious whether or not there is a pattern for it or did you just sew strips and cut triangles. I think it looks beautiful in your sitting area and really gives your tile and furniture a pop of color. What a great idea!

I have just cut 9" muslin squares to start a string quilt but I like the looks of yours if you wouldn't mind sharing the pattern or cutting measurements.

Wonderful quilt!

KenmoreGal2 01-18-2015 05:28 AM

It looks lovely. I'd never think to put a quilt on the floor but you are right, it's cheap and washable. I have some practical questions though. How did you make sure it does not slip on the floor? Do you have to be careful not to catch your toes in the edges or did you somehow attach them to the floor too?

juliea9967 01-18-2015 05:49 AM

Oh! That is an awesome idea. I also wonder how you keep it from slipping. I am going to do that in my living room for the area rug that is under the coffee table and in front of the couch and love seat. It's a pretty small area and the only ones that would be walking on it in my house would be myself and my 5 pound Chi. It is an awesome idea, and I love the fact that it is washable.

juliea9967 01-18-2015 05:50 AM

Oh! I have to post another message because I forgot to subscribe to this thread. I want to know how you keep it from slipping.

nwm50 01-18-2015 06:23 AM

Uh uh....wouldn't walk on that beauty!! Love your basement too

Nonna Judi 01-18-2015 06:30 AM

Oh my goodness, what a cozy and comfortable room! Very inviting.

trolleystation 01-18-2015 06:42 AM

Great use of white in your scrappy quilt.

2manyhobbies 01-18-2015 07:00 AM

I hope everone takes their shoes off! Very nice.

shy 01-18-2015 07:03 AM

I agree u are crazy to use this great quilt as a rug...lol..but I guess to each their own

nananurse 01-18-2015 07:57 AM

Very pretty!! Never thought of using a quilt for a rug. I like it!

Quiltshaker 01-18-2015 07:59 AM

Great idea. We quilters have way too much fabric so a scrappy quillt rug would add life and color to an area. Just one question though, it would need to be stablized so no one trips up. Any suggestions???? Your arrangement is A+++++.

sweetpie2 01-18-2015 08:42 AM

Is that a paper piece pattern?

Ellen 1 01-18-2015 09:19 AM

Absolutely love it on the floor!!! Looks beautiful right where it is!!!!

swizzy 01-18-2015 09:22 AM

Love your quilt. Would you share the pattern?

I have thought about doing that. Did you put anything on the back to keep it from slipping around?

I was wondering the same. I would have never thought about using it as a rug. Will it not get holes?

QuiltnNan 01-18-2015 09:56 AM

it's beautiful... did you put something on the back to keep it from being slippery?

eta: oops, i see that there was a previous post with the same question

chichimamma 01-18-2015 10:41 AM

Cool idea! You really have quilted your basement, lots of nice pieces in there!

gramquilter2 01-18-2015 11:34 AM

Beautiful quilt and love your little sitting area.

FabStripper 01-18-2015 12:52 PM

This is such a colourful quilt. Too pretty to walk on. I do hope you are walking on it with no shoes on.

rosiewell 01-18-2015 01:11 PM

It looks great, but I would put a big sign "shoes off before you step on it!"

solstice3 01-18-2015 04:26 PM

what a cool idea but make sure everyone takes their shoes off!

redquilter 01-18-2015 04:32 PM

That's wonderful. You don't let anyone actually step on it, do you? Gives me shivers to think about it! :)

Fotoula 01-18-2015 04:32 PM

Thanks everyone!!! I use the same method to keep it from being slippery that I have post before on my floor runners and are rug!

Harmony 01-18-2015 04:33 PM

I agree with everyone else--too pretty for the floor! Isn't it amazing how all your scraps can work together to make something so beautiful?

gjc2001 01-18-2015 04:35 PM

That is a really nice quilt, it really dresses up the basement - wish my basement looked like that. Look at all the other quilts, chair covers, pillows, and wall hanging you have in there. I think the next time I do a string quilt, I'm going to use the same fabric in the center of each block like you did. The pattern it makes really stands out.

Onetomatoplant 01-18-2015 05:17 PM

Love it! It's gorgeous!

There is a tutorial in Missouri Star Quilt Co .Make a Summer in the park Qilt Using Jelly rolls.

Pretty quilt and I love your sitting area. My aunt did the same thing with an old quilt, except she put it in her bathroom. It looked great with her claw foot tub.

bepositive 01-18-2015 06:35 PM

It's SO GORGEOUS!! :) I actually thought you were kidding when you said you use it as a rug - I thought you were referring to just laying it out on the floor for the photo, but when I saw how you have your beautiful room arranged. . . I almost started to drool!!!! :) :) BEAUTIFUL!!!

cathyvv 01-18-2015 06:43 PM

Oh, that is gorgeous! It's too beautiful to be an area rug, but I agree that it is outstanding used like that.

Annz 01-18-2015 07:02 PM

All of the colors are spectacular and the white is popping. Your basement looks comfortable.

Ilovesewing 01-18-2015 07:31 PM

I love your quilt and I love how you're using it!

madamekelly 01-18-2015 11:29 PM

Coachmathewsvhs- take a closer look at her picture. The floor was the only thing left to decorate. Everything is already customized! Lol! Beautiful!

materialworld 01-19-2015 12:57 AM

I like your scrappy! I would have never thought to use it as an area rug, but it looks great in your seating area!

heather1949 01-19-2015 03:24 AM

That is beautiful, there is no way I would let anyone walk on it :)

ljptexas 01-19-2015 05:34 AM

Beautiful! Love, love those scrappies!!!

Sew Freak 01-19-2015 06:36 AM

it is too pretty to be walked on....but then, I think it is really nice the way you have it set up. Nice seating area!!

Geri B 01-19-2015 07:32 AM

Such a serenity place.......I bet the house is adults only...no little rugrats or curtain climbers around.....white chair covers and quilted floor! But I do love it.....might copy that idea somewhere in my world.......

Why not a rug......we make mug rugs, table toppers, placemats---ugh the red wine and red sauce, foot warmer for beds, pet beds, of course bed quilts...... Now watch the new trend..........
