My First Stack and Whack
3 Attachment(s)
I am so happy and a bit premature to post this unfinished quilt, but I had to share my first stack and whack. I used the Deb Tucker's ruler and couldn't have been more happy with the results. You become so addicted to this technique that you can't stop making them because you don't see what each block looks like until you stitch the last stitch. It's so hard to believe that that piece of fabric made 36 different blocks and no 2 are alike. I still have to add the black border as a frame and another final border. The fabric is hard to see in the photo. The orange is a Northcott fabric with tiny gold dots. The final border is the same pattern but a darker rusty brown. It will end up 110" x 122". My thoughts are still running a muck because I have to decide what I will quilt in the snowball blocks. I would love to quilt a circular feather, but I am not experienced yet with my longarm. I pray it comes out to my liking. I've made many quilts, but this is the first one for MY bed. Dh likes it a lot.

Oh my, that is very pretty!! I understand the thrill of discovering what each new combination will produce. And isn't it great when the DH is as excited about your project as you are? Great job!
Wow, I love it!

It's beautiful and I love the addition of snowball blocks. They compliment your quilt beautifully!
Wow, that is beautiful! Love the colors, and that fabric! So big, lot of work in that one!
Stunning! This fabric worked beautifully.....the perfect choice. Interestingly on the original fabric I find the white flowers distracting....but when used with this method works brilliantly. Very clever and well done.
Just beautiful. On my to do list. Which Deb Tucker rulers did you use? I love her rulers. Did you make larger and then cut down?
Turned out great!

LOVE IT! The original fabric, the new blocks and the quilt top layout! LOVE IT!
That's lovely! Great choice of fabric for a S&W, the patterns that emerged are beautiful. I look forward to seeing it when you've quilted it.
Beautiful!! Love the fabric choice ~ seems like it would be hard to pick a good fabric for a stack and whack but you chose a perfect one. Great job!
wow fantastic
I am amazed you got no two alike! Very nice quilt!!!

Thanks everyone. I used the Deb Tucker Lemoyne Star Ruler. My fabric repeat was 11 3/4" and I cut 2 1/2" strips which makes a 9 1/2" block. I also have the Martelli table with all the accessories. I used the 9 1/2" fussy cut square template to cut each completed block. They all came out perfect. I initially used a dual mirror to see how the fabric would look. I made my own because I couldn't find one. Believe it or not, but all this fabric in the entire quilt comes from a fabric store that sells ALL fabrics for $2.99/yd. It's hit or miss. Most of the fabrics are Northcott and Blake. They are all wonderful fabrics. I don't generally buy cheap fabric, but I couldn't resist.

It is stunning! Love the sashing and snow ball blocks; they really make the stack and wacks stand out!
Pretty! Neat to see what you can get from the original fabric~
S&W is one of my favorite patterns and yours is gorgeous!
I love your quilt. I like the way you separated your busy blocks with plain blocks so they can be seen and enjoyed. Nice job.
Love your quilt. Never tire of making kaleidoscope quilts. The effects are stunning.
Beautiful quilt.
Wow! Very pretty. I bought the S&W book quite awhile ago but never got around to doing anything with it yet. After looking at all your blocks I think I need to give it a try. Great job!
I really love that design.
I love stack and whack's and you did a beautiful job on yours. Very nice setting for your blocks.
What fun! Hope you figure out a quilting pattern you will feel comfortable with.....It sure is a nice quilt top.
Love it and THANK YOU, THANK YOU for also showing the original fabric!!! It really makes an impact to see where the design started from!
On my bucket list. The creator of the technique (Reynolds, I think) has given us fabric lovers a great gift.
very nice, those are fun
beautiful...thanks for showing the fabric...i always wondered what that looked like after seeing the final results...this will go on my bucket list...luv, luv, LUV IT
That is very cool! I still need to try one.
Your quilt is great.
What an amazingly beautiful quilt it turned out to be! You would have never guess it came out of that fabric. Great job!
A Stack and Whack quilt is still on my Roundtoit List, and I've already purchased the fabric, now to make some headway on actually making it. My girl friend made a couple of them and I'm always fascinated by how different each block can be from the same fabric.
