My first string quilt
3 Attachment(s)
I got the paper to do a string quilt (from Missouri Star Quilts) with the scraps my mom gave me when she stopped quilting (she's 94 yrs old). But instead I bought a line of fabric called Twice as Nice and did a string quilt for my grand daughter. It turned out great. Don't think the picture shows the colors very well. The only thing it took along time to pull all the paper off especially in the seams and what a mess it made.

beautiful quilt next time if you don`t want tio rip try floriani stitch n wash you just tear off excess and when you wash the quilt it dissolves.
best I ever found for pp Gale |
Beautiful quilt! I use a very light interfacing, it stays in the quilt so no ripping out at all! :)
Beautiful string quilt.
loving the colors.
Lovely quilt!
I use really thin or cheap muslin because I hate tearing paper out of my string quilts. That being said, adding machine tape scrappy is on my list to do. Maybe I should try a small section first!LOL
I love your quilt! Love red and aqua. |
Great string quilt. I agree next time use tear and wash stabilizer. It's wonderful.
It's very pretty!
I also use bridal isle paper, very inexpensive and leave it in. Very nice quilt I love the colors in it, lucky granddaughter.
very pretty quilt love it

Lovely! Great colors!
Y0ur quilt is beautiful. I have the same "problem" with paper piecing and enjoyed reading what others said they use instead of paper. I have a question--how do you get the lines onto the other forms of foundations?
Beautiful quilt, love the colors!!
Rachel, I too was wondering how to get lines on other forms of paper. I use muslin for my string piecing quilts but can't figure out how to use the washable stuff for pp either. Any hints, ladies?
That is a wonderful quilt :)
Beautiful! Love the colors. Wondering if you bought yardage or jelly rolls. Also if you did how much and how many. Looks like about 10 different colors.
Very pretty - I like the colors.
Love your quilt!!! The colors are beautiful!!
Pretty quilt. Thanks for the tips ladies, these are things I will be trying in the future. Learn so much from this board.

lovely job
That turned out really nice.
Your quilt turned out great. I love the colors. And yes PP does create a mess. I usually tear out each block as I go so that it is all done when I finish the last block and they are ready to sew together.
The better alternative for strip quilts is to use either a washout out or leave in foundation. They work much better on strip piecing. My preference is the leave in. peace |
It looks really great and worth the paper mess.
Absolutely love the fabric colors you used. So bright and cheerful! Wonderful quilt and I'm sure will be appreciated by DGD Great job!
Very pretty string quilt. I was at a small quilt show yesterday, and one of the ladies was demonstrating using dryer sheets for string quilts. She said she leaves them in the quilt.
Very pretty:) Are you still going to do a scrappy? Dunster, thanks for the dryer sheet tip.....seems like that would take forever to collect....but, still, a good idea.
Beautiful...I stitched my strings onto cut up old sheets...no ripping.
Pretty quilt! I love the colors. I guess there is something wrong with me...I like tearing the paper off. haha Might have something to do with my attention span. I sew, then tear, then sew, then tear...haha
Beautiful!!!
It was well worth the effort, it turned out beautiful. Love the colors.
Love the colors you used!
I have collected so many patterns/ideas for string quilts but haven't made one yet. Yours is beautiful and may be the inspiration that I need! LOVE your colors too! :)
