Ok, had to try a table runner.
I figured I wouldn't bind it, just try and do the pillowcase thing to it.
It was actually pretty easy, considering I thought it was going to be a pain in the butt, but it wasn't.
It's a bit wonky, but not bad for my first one. :)

Chele 08-31-2008 04:20 AM

It looks great! I'm glad it went together easy. I have that pattern bookmarked too.

QuiltingTurtle 08-31-2008 04:20 AM

That is very pretty. It doesn't look wonky at all.

swimmom 08-31-2008 04:21 AM

Nice! What do you mean "pillowcase thing"?

You put the top and backing facing each other, then the batting on top of that. Sew around it leaving an opening so you can pull it all right side out.
It works great on quilts too! I did it for the 2 lap quilts I made for wedding gifts. You don't have to put a binding on it after you do that. All I do after I pull it all right side out is smooth it all down evenly, then sew around the outside of it. When I sew it together all sandwiched, I use a 3/8th inch seam, then when it's all right side out, I sew a 1/4 inch around the entire thing.

tlrnhi 08-31-2008 04:26 AM

Thanks, but it is. It really doesn't lay flat. Had a little "bump" on the back of it that I didn't notice when I pinned it all together. :(

PamH 08-31-2008 04:35 AM

Terri,
Oh I love your tablerunner i don't see wonky either.

I love the word wonky my sewing daughter and i use it so much now that my non-sewing daughter has taken it to decribe Brylee's hair, (check pic in my avatar)

tlrnhi 08-31-2008 04:39 AM

LOL Pam
Her hair isn't wonky. It's just that the "water spout" is a bit sideways. ;)

PamH 08-31-2008 04:42 AM

i did that on my first quilt, but no batting as i used fleece. then around edges i did a fancy stitch.... :P I sure like your table runner. Not sure where it"wonky", cuz it looks pretty darn good to me kiddo. great job!

tlrnhi 08-31-2008 05:01 AM

Thanks.
It just doesn't really lay flat, that's all.
But I like it.
I think I'll make some for this craft fair I have coming in November.
Will probably stick with the reds for Christmas colors.
At least I have a couple months to get started.
Just need to figure out WHAT to make.
Of course, I'll have my totes and i bought a pattern for making diaper bags. Have to order the webbing for the handles.

patricej 08-31-2008 05:27 AM

Oh, that's a good idea! Thanks! Will try that tomorrow!
I'm going to go thru my scraps and make some scrappy ones.
It went together easy and fast! Surprised myself!! :)

swimmom 08-31-2008 05:34 AM

Ok - so to do the "pillow case thing" you would quilt it after sewing the edges?

beachlady 08-31-2008 05:35 AM

Very nce Terri - love red and white. Wonky - no it looks great.

Izy 08-31-2008 06:15 AM

I love your runner, is the pattern here on our site? Would appreciate you pointing me in the right direction if it is.
Oh yes, before I forget could you make 6 placemats to go with it for me please.
I can't see where it's wonky, perhaps I need to take a trip to the opticians

Terri - wonky = character! and besides, each of us has a little wonky in us - right?

I think it is lovely - and you should be proud. Be sure to post the ones you get done for your sale.

tlrnhi 08-31-2008 03:51 PM

THanks everyone.
I'm going to try a few more today. Maybe scrappy ones since I have a TON of scraps sitting on the floor.

Donna

Quilt4u 08-31-2008 04:13 PM

That looks great. I see you waisted no time at getting back into the quilting.

Barb M 08-31-2008 04:35 PM

It looks fantastic!!! Hey, do what i do, fabric always stretches when we don't want it to, so i make it stretch when i do want it to lol, just grab the whole thing and give a few pulls and tugs, and then iron it if it isnt polyfil, but it looks great, just beat it into submission!!!!!!! lol lol

Janstar 08-31-2008 06:15 PM

Looks great Terri and the red is so bright and festive. Just follow the seams for quilting, that works good or every other one. Whatever you do will look fine.

mary quite contrary 08-31-2008 06:23 PM

It looks great to me. Thanks for sharing.

sewnsewer2 08-31-2008 07:53 PM

Ellen

gcathie 08-31-2008 11:10 PM

Well if it's wonky on the backside you won't see it anyhow....so pretty girl....love the color choice

Marcia 09-01-2008 09:03 AM

Terri--Love the red and white and I think you made an awesome first table runner! Can't wait to see more-you are so creative!

Shelley 09-01-2008 09:08 AM

Terri,

Here's a trick to try:

Get the runner wet, and block it. If you have a pinnable mat or a piece of Styrofoam big enough, pit it to that. Some quilters use a couple pieces of 4'x8' insulation boards to do this with competition quilts.

Shhhh....it's a secret!!!!

Good Luck!!

Shadow Dancer 09-01-2008 11:36 AM

Beautiful!! Good job! :)
