Until now basically all my quilts were done with precuts and fabrics collections. They are beautiful and love them.
But there are an AFTER!... After I’d known about this awesome board.
With you I larned a lot, and the result is this simple quilt “The casual fit” quilt for my DH. Without this forum I couldn't have done it. Thank you by heart.

It is 59” x 68” size and my husband loves it. Now is sandwiched and ready for handquilt. This top is the sum of several fantastic lessons:

1.- I’ve got scraps. Yes and It was fun cuting and chopping in the correct sizes, basicaly 5” charms whith the Shape cut ruler of June Taylor and not afraid of doing it bad because they are scraps (Now I’m a pro!)
2.- What to do with used shirts? Well, cut them of course! A lot of fun, more fabric for my quilt!!! Thank you Seven Shirts + Seven Steps tutorial.
3.- With a lot of 5” recycled charms and the tutorial of easy HST I began my controlled scrap, bought a neutral tan for blend and a a blue backquilt (it’s a guy quilt!)
4.- And… I pieded it with my “new” singer FW. Thank you vintage machine fans. I learned about this one in this board. And now I’ve got three.
5.- And the best part is that I am cutting my second one in red & white with a tutorial of Jenny Doan MSQC: The Jacob's Ladder Remix Quilt. And learning to do easy four patch blocks. I loooove easy tutorials! :)

The prewash of fabrics and yours tips antibledders are very useful I hope I've do it correctly...

That looks fantastic ! Great job !! And remember, there are no rules about having to keep all the fabrics from a pre-cut bundle together ! This is one I just finished that I used up some of my " left over " Charms and FQ's that I had from other projects !

That is a perfect quilt for a guy. It can sometimes be difficult to make something that is masculine looking. And I know what you mean about learning so much from this board. I think that I learned almost everything that I know so far from all the kind people here.

I love your 'man quilt'. It turned out great! Is fabric easy to find there?

About your FW....

Are you changing the motors to 220 or working by using a transformer of some kind?

Hello Justflyingin, thank you for your kind words.
About the fabric I have a blog entrie talking about the shops in Madrid, I hope it will be useful :o. but mainly I shop on line in Fabric Shack best prices and international shipping.
My three FW have 110-125 W motors and each one was sold with a voltage converter (110 to 220 w) from 100 VA to 300 VA but the 100 one is too short for several hours working and overheat and the last works fine but a tecnician told me that with 200 VA is just fine and ligther and smaller to carry around. I bought this:

The FWs sew very well after cleaning and oiling, and I rewired two foot pedals too.

jmoore 03-05-2014 04:06 AM

Nicely done. Don't you just love it when you take your talent to a different level? I'm sure you learned a few new things along the way... looking forward to your next project.

It might be your first but it sure is pretty, and I bet it won't be your last. You really did an awesome job. My first quilt was an appliqued Dutch Boy or some call Overall Sam. The shirts was actually from my husbands shirts, and pants was out of his old work pants. I just used the back of the leg it does not wear like the front, get some good fabric that way.

twinkie 03-05-2014 05:13 AM

Very nicely done. Love the red and white.

What a fantastic use of scraps and old shirts. Great guy quilt. No wonder he loved it. Keep posting. I, too, have learned a lot from this board. Everyone is so helpful with their expertise.

Love the quilt & the colors. You have done a great job.

Mariposa 03-05-2014 07:50 AM

Great job on this! Neat to see recycled shirts in amongst the scraps. Good theme for a guy quilt!

quilterpurpledog 03-05-2014 08:16 AM

Such positive feedback from a new quilter. Your second quilt is also very pretty and I know you will enjoy the process.
