This is a gift for my niece, born October 4th. Her name is Violet (hence my color choice).
I used the whole cloth baby quilt pattern from the Return to Elm Creek book. I had never done a whole cloth quilt before, and I thought it would be a quick way to get something done for my niece. Marking the quilt was pain-staking, and the worst part of the whole process. Quilting it was quick and very satisfying. In hindsight I would have done some more quilting in the blank spaces, but in the book it was free motion quilted and I did not want to replicate that by hand. Also, I didn't want to use my machine for this. I have also read some reviews from people who have painstakingly quilted very intricate designs into a whole cloth quilt only to have the design be almost swallowed by all of the puckers and such. If I had more time I would have figured something out and probably done some more quilting, but I really wanted to send it out, and I don't thing the fabric or batting will shift too much. Thanks for looking! |

Very Sweet & love the design you selected....... I absolutely LOVE whole cloth quilting. Back in the mid seventies I used to travel into Utah to this grand quilt shop in the Salt Lake, downtown area. They sold unbelievable patterns to mark them. I had a light table on wheels that I could roll underneath the quilt frame to light up the area and trace it off in minimal time. I've never done actual machine quilting on a quilt......always done it by hand. Soooo relaxing! BTW I used really inexpensive muslin, then the paper pattern, then the actual fabric that the design was to be transferred to. Hook to the frame... when done tracing it off... just unroll and remove muslin & the pattern....Works like a charm. I haven't been able to find the paper patterns in IL. will have to do some research on line.........would love to do one more in this lifetime.
