This is my forever quilt top. It has been in the making for 1 1/2 years. In the planning stage for 3 months. This is for Christmas for my DD and DSIL. It got put on the back burner several times while my husband and my mother were ill. Then after they both died this summer, every time I started working on it I would cry. But, I finally got the top completed. Today, I ordered the backing, which will be Northcutt's Stonehenge Blue wide backing. It has the same colors as the top does. I am glad to be at this stage with this quilt. I so badly want it done. Everytime I thought I was finished, I stood back and looked. Never seemed quite finished to me, so I kept adding fish and other things. After the quilting is done, I plan to add some coins to the chest and crystals throughout the quilt. Oh, and necklaces for the mermaids. My sister painted the coral at the bottom and they are appliqued also. I'm not an artist by any means, so my mermaids are not the prettiest.

Your quilt is beautiful. I'm so sorry for you loss. Some people say our lives are like quilts in that they are many small pieces put together. May this finished quilt be the beginning of your healing.

You really should finish that quilt. It would be a healing process, even after all the years. Think of all the provenence that is associated with that quilt you started.

You are very talented - I am sorry to hear about your mother and husband - but of course quilting helps with the memories -
This may sound rude but I see a lot of abbreviations for people in families and was wondering what DD and DSIL are for - I must sound a little dopey but being an aussie I just wondered if you could enlighten me

Once again a beautiful quilt something I would cherish having a love for the sea

That is such a wonderful quilt. I am so sorry for your loss, as well. I lost my dad the summer of '09. I am still not dealing with it well. I am glad you are quilting. I had no motivation for it for a year. It feels so good to get back into it. It is healing.
