my "fraternal twins" .....

... birthed out of the 2.5" scrap box.
I started to make a dark top, it was planned to be made with 12,5" squares, and had the 35 scrappy blocks made with one row around the center 2.5" square, and realized I didn't have enough long strips to finish, which meant a trip into the big scrap box. But before that I needed a break and was looking at pictures while I had a cup of coffee. And guess what I found! Last week I saw a gal (sry, I forgot her name) that posted her version of a top by Jeanne S -- never could find Jeanne's quilt -- but I borrowed the pix from the quilt posted last week, and made the dark top. Liked it so much I made it in light scraps, one for a girl and one for a boy. Ergo: fraternal twins! Thanks for looking. |
very cute!

Great quilts Judy.
great use of scraps
Very nice.
Love them both!

Wow, loved your post! First you sucked me in with the topic title. Then the way you talked about your strips and how you decided to make them. Then the explanation of the title which piqued my interest from the get-go.
Finally your pics of two fantastic tops that are identical in pattern but so drastically different because of your fabric value choices. Bravo! adore the quilts. |
great twins, like the lighter one better, but i'm partial to pastels and lights
Excellent scrappiness!
both are very nice quilts
Both are beautiful quilts.

You are amazing with how much you get done! and your the best with all the scrappies, thank you so much for sharing them. I love scrappy and I get so inspired by you and this is a pattern I definitely want to make to use up all (ha some) of the 2.5" strips I've been cutting up from my scraps. Thanks again!
I love it. Both of them are great scrappies.
they are both very nice!!!
Very nice quilts. Do you ever sleep Judy??? You are so energetic in your sewing and I sure do applaud you for making so many quilts to be donated. FYI--I think a picture of Jeanne S. quilt is on the tutorial forum. I have been wanting to make one with her pattern for some time and hopefully I can get one done soon. Looks like an easy pattern.

One looks male and one looks female!
Lovely twin quilts!
You have a way of turning leftovers into delightful quilts!
Thanks for sharing....I love seeing the same quilt in two color ways!
Love both quilts. I would have made them with partial seams. All the strips are the same size, so they are easy to cut. I made a Square Family quilt with about 500 or more squares. All were partial seamed and I loved doing it.
As always, I love your scrappies!
Both of them are so pretty! I love that pattern
They are beautiful and inspiring ! Thanks for sharing them !
I like them both!
Very nice. I too saw this pattern posted and think I kept a copy of it since it looked so simple to make. I'm much into simple these days after En Provence.
Clever idea and they are both nice looking quilts!
Belfry -- I hated every minute of Provance after all the pieces were made and I started to assemble it. Been back from the long arm for 3 weeks now, just don't have the heart to finish it.
They look great!

This is so interesting..our guild just had our biennial quilt show in February and I had two of my quilts hanging in it......Titled "the Fraternal Twins". They were the same block and color but differed with the bindings, the borders and the backings.
After the show, a friend of mine had a set of twins join his family, Grace & Jacob, and I couldn't think of a better pair to enjoy these quilts. Jacob received the blue border and Grace the red. |
These both are great - simple, effective use of "standard" scraps. Going on my bucket list of scrappies to make! Thanks for the inspiration!
Great use of scraps. Bravo!
How "different" it looks using light fabrics. Nice work.
