I had a lot of fun making this quilt for our bed. Will probably repeat some of the blocks later for the great grandkids. I especially enjoyed making the scrappy turtles with the hats. Think that will be a good one for our great grandson's first big boy quilt when he graduates to a youth bed.

This is queen size. I hand quilted it.

The frogs at the bottom are paper pieced as are the turtles and dragon flies on the side borders and top

The center is a blown up picture of a frog and dragon fly that I googled and the cross stitch blocks was what really started the idea of making a frog quilt.

I am afraid me and my cat will stand our grounds. The cat loves to lay with the big frog in the middle and usually sniffs each of the scrappy turtles before she curls up.

The cross stitch frogs were on printed material I bought in a Ben Franklin sttore in a package kit. Don't remember the company name if any on it.
Had to buy the floss separately.

Yes, all of the border blocks are paper pieced before I learned about the muslin trick. So I had lots of paper and material bits all over the house by the time I was finished. LOL. Now I use muslin instead of paper for the foundation. Saves lots of time. The lilies are from EQ6 templates and appliqued and the scrappy turtles are appliqued.

Wonderful. Did you make your own pattern for the frogs and turtle? they are so cute.

I kind of made the pattern for the scrappy turtles. I googled pictures for the basic outline and then made templates from the picture. The big frog and dragon fly were also googled and then enlarged with my computer. The polywogs on the blue saching ( they really don't show up very good ) were copied from a photograph of polywogs that were also googled. What would we do without google? I guess my quilt is googlely. The rest of the quilt was done with preprinted material for the cross stitch blocks and the commercial frog pond pattern but I did resize. The pattern is a Starbear & Friends pattern called Over the Pond. The water lilies were in EQ6

Hi Barb,

Your Frog Pond quilt is the bomb! I'm sure it was a work of love. You do wonderful work. I really enjoyed our lunch the other day. Let's do it again. Perhaps I won't have quite so much on my mind next time.

tlrnhi 06-17-2008 08:16 AM

That is just WAY TOO CUTE!!!

barbsbus 06-17-2008 10:36 AM

Beth
I had a lot of fun lunching with you too. DH is going to have surgery on his eye on the 25th at UC Davis and I am kind of on a hold pattern until we get the results. The Cancer center wants to see him after they get the rresults of biophsy but are sure the Lymphoma is starting to get active again and will either do a drip or radiation in the near future. Always something. As soon as I know let's make plans to have lunch again. Hope all is well with your family.

You are very welcome. I must admit I do enjoy making our bed in the morning and putting my Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls and some of the soft sculpture frogs on the pillows and then watch Binks jump up and do her thing wtih the turtles and curl up in the middle on top of the big frog.

kinkajou 06-17-2008 06:57 PM
