Found this at a local garage sale Sat. morn. It was late in the morning and I couldn't believe no one had grabbed it up. It's a quilt top, probably from the 30's or 40's. Hand stitched but in need of some TLC. I think someone has washed it before finishing and some of the seams have come apart. I think I can fix the seams, if not I have plenty of vintage fabric to replace some blocks. Whichever, it is going to be a PROJECT! But I believe it will be well worth the effort. If I can repair it I will hand quilt it. Thanks for looking.

What a find! Congrats.

great find! Show it when done please. Very pretty too.

Great find!! Yes, I think it's definitely worth saving & hand quilting when you get the repairs done. Please post pics when you get your treasure all fixed up.

I love that quilt. I can't believe someone would put that out. Just the memory of fabrics that remind you of your family or friends...That is what happens when families die off. My brother-in-law , who had no knowledge of hand crafted things just put everything out on tables and got rid of them. I had made a very special large counted cross stitch for my DMIL and cried while I worked on it. It was so special to me. Never saw it again. It was called "His Mother, Or Our Mother". Then 15 or 20 years later my DDIL found the poem and did it for me, then in 10 more years she walked out on my wonderful son. Change happens along lifes pathways.

Great find. I love it! :-)

I wonder what pattern the quilt is? I really do love it...wish I had something like that from someone in my family. My parents back in the 70's lost a lot of things in a tornado in MN. But they were not hurt...TG
|
Please show the final results...I am sure it will be worth the effort.
|
I think that is beautiful. I just love yard sale finds.
|
I checked a couple of books and one (The Patchwork Qlt & Design Coloring Bk) gives me the idea that the blocks were started in the Trip around the world pattern. Any other ideas?

Wonderful find!! Lucky you. I just adore antique quilts.
|
whenever I am at a garage sale, I am always inclined ot buy old quilts and afghans. Someone put a lot of time and effort into these and it breaks my heart to see them being discarded instead of saved for family heritage.

Thanks everyone. I took it with me to a quilt club meeting today and everyone liked it. Not as much as I do though. I do need to research the pattern. Does anyone else have an idea of the era of the fabrics?

I would have squealed with delight at finding such a treasure !! Good for you. And......... wouldn't the quiltmaker be happy and honored to know that you are finishing her quilt for her. Have fun with this project.

Once I bought a beautiful basket top and quilted it by hand. However one of the plain blocks was a weird color- they were muslin but it was "off" so I replaced it before I quilted. My son told me that whoever made the top would haunt me :D:D:D
But the brat was wrong- it's been years since I finished it lolol |
How beautiful! Please post pics when you have it quilted!
|
Wowee! Great find.
|
You are so fortunate! What a beautiful, old quilt. :-D
