I have been working on her for weeks. It is a whole cloth panel and it had only her drawn with black lines and no color. I painted her with Shiva Paintstiks and added detail and texture to her clothing with micro quilting.
Thanks for looking. Maria |
WOW!!! Absolutely georgous!! you are very talented.

She's beautiful! You did such a wonderful job!
|
Wow, you did an amazing job! Is this going to be something you keep or is it a gift? If it's a gift, someone is going to be very, very lucky indeed!

Oh sweety, ((hugs)), I understand. Well, someone is definitely going to be thrilled to get her! How much do you normally charge for something like her?
|
I'm sorry to hear you lost your job and hope you either find work soon or win the lottery. :)
She is absolutely lovely. I hope you put her in an upscale shop...she certainly is worth the showing. |
She will go for approximately $400-$500. She has so many hours of work I can't even count them, plus the pain and the fine threads. I will bring her tomorrow to a shop in town and will send pics to my friends in NYC in case someone knows someone who may be interested.

that is stunning!
|
I'd say she's definitely worth $500! I hope she goes for the highest price possible and that you and your family have a nice Christmas.
Out of a hope that lemons can make lemonade, could this be an opportunity for you to start your own business? You are definitely talented! Maybe a local quilt store or group would be willing to let you teach a class or two. Heck, I'd love to take a class on the paintsticks from you and I would think there would be others in your area who would be glad to take a class or two. Just a thought. If I had $500 I would give it to you in a minute! |
It's beautiful.

If I had $500 I would give it to you in a minute! I have my on-line business but had to return my permit to the taxation department this week. If I have a registered business I don't qualify for unemployment and my on-line store doesn't sell enough to suppot my family. Three or four quilts a year don't feed two boys. So, as of yesterday I don't have my business either. It was more like a hobby I learned a lot from. Not only quilting, but managing and designing a web site. I will reopen it when I find another job, but I will have to move first. I see a lot of changes coming my way. |
It is so gorgeous! You do beautiful work! I hope you are more than compensated when this piece sells! It would be a great boost to do more like this one! Good luck on your selling of this piece and hoping your business will take off well for you! :-) :-)

She's beautiful!! I hope you can sell her for top dollar!!!
|

Wow, that is beautiful. It's a work of art.
|
What a stunning piece.

YOU are crazy amazing! Wow she is stunning. What are paint sticks anyway? I would also take a class from you to learn that technique, verry cool.
|
WOW, that's fantastic! You did a wonderful job.
All the best to you as you face the challenges ahead. The unknown is always scary. ranger |
Oh my, she is GORGEOUS :D

That is beyond gorgeous!!
|
Very nice.

Thanks a lot for your comments. I already started painting my second one. I was surprised to find that there are tons of these Geishas in different poses. I found one on e-bay for $2.00. she will be next.

I found two in the sale bin at a LQS here a couple months ago. There are different background shades so I know they were different. They were all bought up when I pulled them out and started looking at them, after I got what I wanted!

hand painted and art quilted? she's worth a lot more than $500.
maybe your friend in NYC can make some art gallery contacts for you. best of luck! :P |

That's a problem with needing income quickly, you can't really shop around for that one person who is willing to pay what it is worth. |
Wow! She is lovely.
|
Nice job. I like it. :D
|
This is beautiful. Have thought about doing this with the paint sticks you used. Will have to try it. Thanks forsharing this with us.
HUGS |
You are very talented!! Many quilt guilds would be happy to have you come and lecture and/or teach a workshop. You should look into that. They pay well, plus lodging and transportation. In CA they have a "Meet the Teachers" session at the Quilt Guilds Council, and all the guilds book their teachers for the coming year or two.
Sorry if this is OLD news....I don't always read every post before I put my own 2 cents in!!! :P |
I think you have done an amazing job with this. Sorry to hear things are not going so well, but you have heart and talent...so with that in hand, you will be ok. I hope you sell your Geisha for top dollar....she is worth it. You may want to get in touch with some interior designers, especially the ones who do "upmarket" clients, they are always looking for unique art pieces. If you manage to network a bit, you might get some good commissions. Hang in there, one foot in front of another, all the best from the land of Aus.

Oops I forgot....don't sell yourself short...
|
Fantastic. Oh my!
