My Goodwill Find

6 Attachment(s)
Here are pictures of the quilt I found at the Good Samartian-Goodwill. There are a couple of tears and one of them are the way thru. There are stains on it too. Enjoy, cause this quilt is beautiful, it is all hand stitched.

I agree! Congrats to you for finding it.

dakotamaid 06-12-2013 10:21 AM

If you are just going to display it perhaps leave it but if you plan on using it than I would fix it. Just my thought.

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 06-12-2013 10:23 AM

A couple of little butterflies appliqued on there would look as if they were always there. Just find the right fabric and go for it.

NikkiLu 06-12-2013 11:19 AM

WOW - what a beautiful quilt. You are a very lucky lady and the quilt is very lucky that you rescued it.

GagaSmith 06-12-2013 11:42 AM

It's beautiful. A lot of work went into making that.

Rose S. 06-12-2013 11:57 AM

What a great find!

faykilgore 06-12-2013 12:01 PM

I'm so glad you rescued that gorgeous quilt!

Jingle 06-12-2013 12:28 PM

Absolutely beautiful quilt. I like the butterflies to hide the rips. I would try washing it and maybe soak in ozyclean. Then I would put it on display. I would threaten anyone's life if they try to use it.

verna2197 06-12-2013 12:40 PM

I so totally agree about the butterflies. I knew that if I posted on here that someone would come up with a real good idea. Thank you everyone for the great comments. Oh by the way I forgot to put on here how much I paid for this quilt. Are you ready for this? I only paid $15.00. Somebody really screwed up, they just didn't know what they had. This is all hand stitched.

starshine 06-12-2013 01:38 PM

Congrats on such a great find. do what you can for repair but if the stains don't come out-hey its part of its history.

Diane007 06-12-2013 02:25 PM

sassy granny 06-12-2013 05:41 PM

Try soaking the stains in peroxide. I have good luck with it. The quilt is beautiful, I would love to own it.

I agree! Perhaps a little batting over the one that it all the way through. I love the idea of butterflies.

Tweety2911 06-12-2013 06:32 PM

A truly beautiful find! The tears and stains just show it was loved by someone. A real treasure!

I agree with something on top of the tears/holes - that will prevent the holes from getting bigger - and don't worry too much about the stain - that's character!

Good find!
Nan

Ditto from me. Someone got rid of a treasure! I would have used that thing until it was totally TOTALLY worn out.

Scraplady 06-13-2013 05:00 AM

I have found a few "treasures" at thrift stores, but that quilt is absolutely fabulous. I can't imagine anyone letting go of something like that. Clearly they didn't know the value of what they had. Lucky you!

Scraplady I so agree with you. I just can't imagine anyone getting rid of this quilt. There isn't any label at all on it. This quilt is a treasure and should be treated as one. There is no way they knew what they had. Their loss my win.

I want to know why I never find good (GREAT!) stuff like this at my Goodwill... it is indeed beautiful!

mighty 06-13-2013 06:03 AM

Beautiful, great save!!!!!

Wanabee Quiltin 06-13-2013 06:35 AM

I buy quilts all the time that are vintage. Most of them are stained and ripped and when I finish restoring them, they are magnificant. Good Luck with this quilt, it's beautiful and you got a fabulous buy.

luvstoquilt 06-13-2013 06:38 AM

That is beautiful...I would applique a flower like the ones on the quilt over that damaged area....just a thought...It is stunningly beautiful. What a wonderful purchase!!!

fred singer 06-13-2013 07:50 AM

awesome quilt great find

EdieClay 06-13-2013 10:12 AM

Beautiful quilt ... so sad that it ended up at Goodwill. At least, it will now have a loving home.

canuckninepatch 06-13-2013 11:09 AM

I agree - it's good that someone like you bought it.....I work in a thrift shop, and a lot of times people buy things like that to put in a pet bed!

OMG my dogs would be in serious trouble if I even catch them sniffing it. LOL There is no way I would put something as beautiful as that in my dogs bed.

twinkie 06-14-2013 04:13 AM

That is beautiful. Congrats

Latrinka 06-14-2013 05:04 AM

Beautiful quilt! Definitely fixable!

katesnanna 06-14-2013 05:26 AM

What a shame that all that beautiful work ended up in Goodwill. Looks like it's hand quilted too. Maybe its all handmade. Obviously someone who didn't appreciate all the hours it must have taken to make. Lucky you found it and will give it a good home.

MargeD 06-14-2013 07:36 AM

What a fantastic find, despite a couple tears and a few stains - the quilt is gorgeous.

Mariposa 06-14-2013 07:38 AM

A beautiful find! Glad you gave it a loving home!
