DD and SIL have things in storage and next door is a Goodwill. They decided to take some things over that they no longer wanted. I went in and found this beauty sitting on a table. I had to look twice at the price they were asking: $9.99!!! It even had the manual tucked inside.
Oops! Ignore the date on the pictures. I used DD's camera and had to put in new batteries and forgot to fix the date. What are these used for?? |
OMG !!!! Lucky YOU Does it run??
coooooollllll!!!!!!!!
I haven't tried it yet. It weighs a ton and I think it has 306 W on the front of it.
I saw that on Ebay last night, bet it was more than $10. Great find.
Wow!!! That's a nice find.
The plates look like a very early straight stitch plate and a feed dog cover plate. Look at the plates on a Janome 1600p--very similar.
So cute.
metal pieces are throat plates
Those "metal things" go on the bed of the machine, they are interchangable with the one that is already there. The one on the left is for doing a straight stitch only, the one that is on the machine is probably for zig zag stitching, I am not sure what the one on the right with the raised surface is for. Please excuse me, I am having a brain fart right now and cannot think of the right name for these.
Thanks Pam! The manual says it does zig zag stitches so you are right.
I would venture a guess that the one with the raised part is the "free motion" plate so that the feed dogs do not contact the fabric and you can move the quilt around under the needle.
Great find, lucky you :D
it's a 306 - it takes SPECIAL NEEDLES... do NOT use regular machine needles, they are too long and will damage the bobbin case.
good news, you can get needles at: http://www.allbrands.com/products/abp15426.html one order will last you the rest of your natural life... I have a 306 and a 319 = mechanical stitches - no motherboard to go blooey.. I've been using the 319 for piecing... I love them both |
Congrats on the 'find'. Read up on how to clean up that machine and get her oiled and greased in the proper areas.
Hopefully it'll be a smooth running machine. Check the wires before plugging in to make sure they're not exposed/frayed/dry rotted, etc. Safety first |
WOW! What a great find!
I have a 306 W Machine they are great , but do take a special needle. It can do other stiches . The black disk is the disk for special stitches . You probablay have the zig zag stitch disk on the machine.
I have another machine ( computerized) but always come back to my good 306W. You are a lucky , lucky lady! |
Can't get any luckier than that! Congrats.
What a beauty. I'm glad use rescued it.
Great find! Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!
I can't wait to take her out and check everything. I had to watch the grandbabies last night and I have to work tonight. Then I am off until Saturday night!!
I was looking for info on this machine and found a link to Ebay. I was blown away at how much they wanted for one like mine.

Wonderful!! Our thrift stores seem to get a lot of really old sewing machines. So far no tredles but some that are probably older then me......I wouldn't know what to do with any more... I think I have six now counting my tredle.I know I will use it!!
Ditter |
What a great find :D:D:D
I believe the raised one is for free-motion quilting.
Did it come with any of the special black disks to make fancy stitches?
great find, congrats!!
Excuse me for asking, but why are so many of you excited about old sewing machines? I though new and improved was the way to go now days.

Fabricnut, I have the same question.
To me, there is something so special about an older machine. They have a history to them. I often wonder who used them and who they sewed for.
Nice find. I hope it runs. If it does you are one lucky gal.
