Real pretty quilt, good find.

usafchick1980 04-06-2012 04:59 AM

Great find. I like that. Makes me want to go check out Goodwill.

luvstoquilt301 04-06-2012 05:15 AM

I am sure the quilter would be very happy.

feline fanatic 04-06-2012 05:26 AM

I am glad you saved this. I always feel so sad when I hear of a home made quilt being found in Goodwill. I always think of the quilter giving it with such love to the recipient and then it ends up at goodwill. I am glad it was found by someone who loves and appreciates it though.

erstan947 04-06-2012 05:35 AM

Great save! If quilts could talk this one would have a story to tell.

crafty pat 04-06-2012 05:37 AM

How lucky you are, what a beautiful quilt. So happy you saved it.

I feel the same way about these quilts.

ArtsyOne 04-06-2012 05:58 AM

It's really beautiful and I'm so glad it ended up in a good home.

pls1946 04-06-2012 06:14 AM

It's a nice little quilt, thank you for saving it!

mighty 04-06-2012 06:31 AM

Great save!!!!

QuiltE 04-06-2012 06:54 AM

Great score!!

And thanks for posting ... I have several house blocks made from that same pattern ... and they have sat and sat and sat as I didn't think I wanted to see all of them in one quilt. I think you just gave me a solution!! :)

Mariposa 04-06-2012 06:56 AM

Terrific save of a great small quilt! Now it is at your home where it will be loved and used! :)

Diannia 04-06-2012 07:16 AM

Wow that's pretty. I can't believe people just "get rid" of treasures like this...but I'm glad you recognized it for what it's worth...

Diannia

luvstoquilt 04-06-2012 07:21 AM

Oh..how lucky...our Goodwill Store NEVER has anything like that but I keep stopping in to see anyway!

Stitchnripper 04-06-2012 07:25 AM

I think that is where my quilts will end up. That is one reason I quilt with any fabric that seems decent and not always LQS quality.

sylviak 04-06-2012 07:32 AM

Think of the work that was put into this quilt! I counted 14 appliqued blocks.

CoyoteQuilts 04-06-2012 10:28 AM

What a great find!

Good find, lucky you! Sometimes I think these items are there because the former owner didn't have anyone to pass along too, or something may have happened and someone else came in and just moved items out. Which is sad.

flhomeschoolmom 04-06-2012 11:14 AM

It is a very nice little quilt, and thank you for saving it. I do however know how a lot of homemade quilts end up in places like Goodwill. My local Ministry center is a lot like Goodwill. I once went there to donate a bunch of clothes that my boys had outgrown. While I was there, I saw a lady walk up with a stack of homemade quilts that she was donating. The quilts were all brand new, and made by the lady donating them. I asked her why she donated them, and she told me that she simply enjoys quilting and making quilts. However, she has more than she needs at her home so she donates them for the Ministry center to sell and get money from for their food bank, etc. The lady who makes the quilts is Minnonite...they are sort of like the Amish and her quilts were beautiful.

Wonderful quilt and a great find and save!

SouthPStitches 04-06-2012 11:40 AM

It's hard to see a quilt that someone put so much love into ended up at Good Will; however, the irony is that it found a much better home, where it will appreciated for what it is. Good find.

SuzyQ 04-06-2012 11:58 AM

Wow, that's really pretty and looks to be well made and in good shape

Suzy

harvsstuff 04-06-2012 12:44 PM

Thats such a sweet quilt, I'm glad you saved it and brought it home to someone who
will appreciate it.

Divokittysmom 04-06-2012 12:55 PM

Oh what a pretty quilt and a great rescue!! I have just never understood how people can just give away family treasures!! My husband and I are really into genealogy and truly treasure every scrap of family history we can find! We also love perusing 2nd hand and antique shops and always find tons of personal vintage photos. We just can't understand how family members can just throw away pieces of family history, especially photos! To me a quilt is exactly the same thing a family treasure! If the someone doesn't want a quilt that may have been gifted, either give it back to the quilter or another family member or quilter!! I just don't get it!! scratching my head here!

Tweety2911 04-06-2012 12:55 PM

How sad that someone felt it was not worthy to keep. Lucky you came along and saved it. It is beautiful!

Sweeterthanwine 04-06-2012 01:58 PM

Wow - that is some find. I'm always checking out the Goodwill store and all the other thrift stores around town. You just never know what you might find.

Good for you, its very nice. so far I haven't found any quilts at GW.

Wine Woman 04-06-2012 04:02 PM

I'm glad you were able to take it home with you and it's in good hands. You just never know what you may find at the second hand stores! I always stop in a take a quick look! My last visit was a brand new vacuum cleaner like the one I already have but for 20.00 I just couldn't pass it up. It cleaned up so nice and now I have one for downstairs!

sandybuttons 04-06-2012 04:19 PM

Me, too. But it has a good, loving home now!

Jingle 04-06-2012 05:40 PM

Beautiful, so sad quilts are given to thrift stores. Nice that caring people find them and appreciate someone's hard work and time. Good for you to rescue it.

ging10ging 04-06-2012 05:48 PM

Hi fellow RI person. I used to live in RI in Pawt. Where are you from in Rhody? We're now in Fl. Sue
