This quilt gave me problems from the start. I cut the strips for a traditional rail fence, with 3 in finished "rails". I forgot to add the seam allowance to the strips. I did realize my mistake before I started sewing. So I cut the dark green strips to go with the light green. Not thinking about anything but getting it done, I didn't realize the "design" change till the top was finished. The blocks float!!! I really like the way it turned out. So do my DD's, and they don't really care for pink. They said it looks like a watermellon. You're seeing it with the binding clips still on because I'm leaving for Knoxville tomorrow. I won't have access to a computer while I'm gone. It's for my neice who's in the hospital. The Quilt Police have already told me not to give it to her in the hospital!! "It'll be stolen". So, I'll make her another quilt!!!!
I ran short on thread, and no one around here had more of the varigated green, so I used dark green on the back. It looks black next to the black and white back! Another "Happy Accident".

There are no mistakes in quilting, just design options.

rnrn 07-13-2010 09:40 AM

What a wonderful "happy accident". I love the way it floats. It is very striking!

That is so sad that one has to worry about a quilt being stolen out of a hospital. I cannot imagine what a bad reputation that must give the nurses since they are the main ones in and out of hospital rooms.

The quilt is lovely.

mlaceruby 07-13-2010 09:50 AM

If you are going to have an accident, you sure want the results to look like that. It looks great.

The optical illusion is great. When someone wraps a quilt around themselves it's like being hugged. Go ahead a give it to her. She'll get attention from everyone when they see it.

Judy_M 07-13-2010 10:42 AM

Really pretty colors. Do the binding clips work better than pins? If so I'll have to get some.

My thoughts exactly. She is in intensive therapy for oxygen depravation. She's re-learning everything. Still don't know the extent of her brain damage, but she's making remarkable progress. Not sure she will recognize me, but she will have something to remember me with!!!

I love binding clips!! I hate being stuck with pins. The clips are easy on, and off. They come 20-50 to the package, I have hundreds. I've found them on the clearance isle several times, I always buy them out. My cat likes to play with them too.
I usuall put alot more on, but I'm traveling, and I don't want to loose them if I can help it.

I've used them for years. Walmart still carries them in the craft isle. Even the ones that have down sized the crafts section. I think it is one notion that is worth it's weight!!!

RevPam 07-13-2010 11:47 AM

oooh...a new designer! Get a copyright 'cause it's gorgeous!

magpiefeather 07-13-2010 12:00 PM

That was a lucky accident...its an eye dazzler now! Good job... and prayers for the recipient...

rootyr 07-13-2010 12:30 PM

Wonderful!

Ramona Byrd 07-13-2010 12:52 PM

Be VERY sure to put her name on it where it
can be easily seen.

Sadly, whomever told you it might be stolen is
correct. As a 28+ year hospital volunteer, I know
that is correct. Things grow legs in the middle of
the night and follow people home.

magpie 07-13-2010 02:01 PM

Very pretty accident. She will love it.
