Connie, Cute chicken pincushions. Are you using sand for them. I am making some pincushions (not chickens) and I am using crushed walnut shells to stuff them. I got it at the pet store. I guess they use it for litter for bird cages.

I found this in PetSmart in the Reptile department as 'sand litter'. Do you think it's the same as the type/texture used for birds? I can't find any 'bird litter'. (It was $12.99 for a bag, I think.)

I use crushed walnut shells in mine.
Get them at the pet store, they use them for reptile liter.
I shy away from sand and rice for it can take on the humidity in the air and cause the pins to rust down the road. Do you have a pattern for them, would love making them for my shop pals?

Where do you get the plastic pellets?

Connie, we are having a craft show in 2 weeks and I would love to make a couple of your hens. How did you do it?

I use rice. I know sand is sold in craft shops.
I like your chickens. What size are they?
