You are off to a good start. You do realize this is only the beginning. Once we give into the urge it soon becomes an addiction.

Advice: don't stay away from any material that you like/love!! Stash building is addictive but fun to pull from when you are working on a project. Have fun building one for yourself!! Looks like you're off to a great start.

Wow!!!!! Beautiful.

pollyjvan9 06-03-2010 05:03 AM

You have a great beginning! Buy whatever you love in whatever amounts you can afford because when you want or need it, it will be gone. I would add some blacks, brown, and neutrals next.

Crabby Patty 06-03-2010 05:05 AM

GOOD START. It looks to me like you don't need any help in the shopping area. Great fabrics. Rule of thumb is if it jumps out at you and you like it, buy it. I buy at least 3 yards of each fabric I purchase. Sometimes even that isn't enough depending on the quilt pattern you're making. Just have fun and enjoy.

Good start for a Soldier on the Go! Are you able to purchase any fabrics out there in Puerto Rico? By the way, thanks to people like you, we at home have the freedom that we do. My son is Army, 16 yrs. now.

thismomquilts 06-03-2010 05:08 AM

Hey, you have to start somewhere - and you've done a good job starting here! :)

nwm50 06-03-2010 05:48 AM

You have got a real nice stash going on! I hear you will use these up faster than you know. All those colors are lavish, bright & pretty, Have to show us what you make out of these soon.

sueisallaboutquilts 06-03-2010 05:49 AM

Yes, I have missed your sweet and pretty face!!!!!!!!!! :)
Big hugs!!! Sue

You have a nice variety in colors, the only thing I would suggest is to add a wider variety of prints and patterns, like florals, stripes, plaids, larger prints, geometric prints, etc. As for the yardage, it depends on your circumstances (how much you can store, move with you, etc.) and what size and type of quilts you like to make and what you can afford. For me, I love scrappy quilts and I had limited funds so I bought 1 yard pieces or even half yard pieces. I decided I would rather have a large selection of small amounts of fabrics instead of a small quantity of larger pieces. Although when I saw a fabric that I just fell in love with or a wonderful border fabric, I'd buy 3 yards. And when I came across muslin for 21 cents a yard, I took all they had!!

You have a great stash. I usually buy fat quarter bundles, that way I get a piece of everything in the collection, love aunt grace and civil war fabric. When I see something I can't live without, I usually buy 3 yards. Keep up the good work :)

thequilterslink 06-03-2010 06:15 AM

Nice start to a good stash. I am drooling on the black and white print. When i see a fabric i love i buy 3 yards, if i like it 1-2 yards and if i need some for the stash or just having withdrawals :) i get a FQ

dkabasketlady 06-03-2010 06:53 AM

You have some beautiful colors & a good start on your "stash". I'm sure your space is limited with being in a medical barracks, so right now less is more! It takes time to build up a stash like some of the pics that have been posted. Nothing happens overnight, unless we hit the lottery, right?

shaverg 06-03-2010 06:55 AM

Pretty fabrics, you are off to a good start. Be careful, it can get really bad. I find I "must" buy some fabric at least a couple times a month and I am really controlling myself!!!

rootyr 06-03-2010 10:16 AM

Great start!

quiltsRfun 06-03-2010 11:09 AM

You're off to a good start. And I see you like lighthouses. Me too.

craftybear 06-03-2010 11:52 AM

awesome, great colors

Irishlady 06-03-2010 12:05 PM

You've got some really lovely fabric there, but you know, its slowly dawning on me whats happening here. You see when I started sewing a few years ago I needed to buy some fabric in order to make a quilt, now, things have evolved to the point where I have to make quilts in order to carry on buying fabric!!!

I know, right? Same thing happened to me!

littlehud 06-03-2010 09:06 PM

You have some beautiful fabric there. Beware, it will grow if left alone. That has to be what happened to mine. I'm sure I didn't buy all of that.

gaigai 06-03-2010 10:10 PM

I see at least six that I have in my stash! LOL
