Well you tell your DH I think he did a fabulous job on his first quilt! I wish my DH would come into my sewing room and help me conquer some piles of scraps. If the men can cut wood and build they can certainly cut fabrics and build a quilt too. Enjoy your time building together!
Well good for him....and for you for not pooh-poohing him away. Watch out now tho cuz he's got the BUG !!!! Hide the fabric that you're saving for that special project or you'll come home from the store one day and find he's already got it cut for his next project !!!
Good for him, how wonderful to share quilting with your hubby - watch your stash, you may have created a monster!
What a great job. My DH is very helpful with my quilting and craft needs but the only time he will sew on a machine is when he is repairing it or testing the stitch to regulate it.
Cool, sounds like he's hooked!!!
He should indeed be proud of himself, but watch out: quilting is sort of like a strange disease -- once you get bitten by "the bug," there's really no cure for it. You just have to keep cutting and piecing!!
wow, this is an outstanding and brilliant quilt.
it is so beautiful. Thanks for sharing. JOHN |
You go guy! Really neat.
Your all's scrappy quilt is great. I am glad that he is learning to use your sewing machines and creating something. My DH will buy me most any machine I take a notion for, but he stays out of my sewing room except to try to entice me out to go for a ride or shopping. Now my son is another subject. He has learned to use and keep my Gammill up and going, and is my main quilter, but when he tries to sew on a regular machine, 1/4" seams don't come easy for him. We all have our little stories, don't we????? I love this board.
Good job on the quilt, love it when the scraps get used up.
Read this to my husband and ask if he was ready to help me quilt and he only chuckled. Guess that was a no. It has been a long winter but he loves driving the tractor and using the snow blower so I guess I'll be sewing alone for awhile yet. Good thing we can afford the fuel, we have the widest driveway and biggest parking area in the neighborhood. |
What a wonderful story! Now your fabric budget is going to double... of course that's not bad at all! Have fun because this is a rarity. Tell him he did good!
Good job! My DH is now quilting as well and I have to make an appointment to use my machine :-)
Well good for him! Nothing like an interesting and challenging activity to while away the winter hours. He's lucky to have you and that you're willing to share your love of quilting.
Give him a big hug and a kiss for me and ask him if he has a brother?????
That is so cool one way to keep him busy and productive the quilt is gorgeous and you are incredible. Now you both will be buying fabric so much fun.

Looks like we are going down the same street. My husband was doing my cutting and he was so good at it. When I was doing a scrap quilt I noticed he was looking with interest. Ok, I let him touch my sewing machine and he is as good if not better than I. I have never wanted to let him do this as I would much rather have help with housework (: It seems like there is never enough time to enjoy my sewing. Retired men have far more relaxing time than women. I think it is time that we balance the load. This was nice when we gave our children jelly roll quilts as I could say "we" made it for them. In fact, I even took a picture of him at the sewing machine as proof. This is a good hobby for a retired machinist.
He did a great quilt.
Awesome! I think you found yourself a quilting partner! Good job!!
Barbgil....my DH is a retired ironworker/welder :) I guess using "machinery" is just second nature to them...haha.
We just finished making place mats and pot holders for our daughter in CA. I'll take some pics and post them. He did a good job with these, too. I've read him all these comments and he is just blown away that there has been so much interest in his "beginner" quilt. Thanks so much ladies. |
You have a terrific husband! Bored, and instead of sitting around complaining, asks if he can help sew! What a man! His quilt is great, too!
very manly.. get he loves it.. men do not realise that they are great quilters...
What a great story, and it looks like another quilter is born. I'm happy for you that he has taken such an interest in your quilting that he wants to learn - couldn't get my husband near a sewing machine if his life depended on it; but then I'd rather not work on computers, so it evens out.
very nicely done!!!!
That is so neat - how wonderful that you all can share a hobby. And the quilt is marvelous!
Good for him...Great quilt....
Great quilt!
It must be fun to have your husband sew along with you!!! Tell him great job!!!
That's a talented husband! Made my favorite kind of quilt: SCRAPPY And he did a great job!
Cool! More men seem to be getting into quilting lately... especially if they can run a longarm quilting machine. I think it is great. Have fun sharing your passion.
Good for him.
