My Husband Made This.....

1 Attachment(s)
My retired husband has been bored with all the snow and cold this winter so he asked me if he could help me sew. I was working on a QAYG quilt so I did the piecing and he did the quilting on the blocks. When he was finished with that he asked if there was something else he could do. I started thinking about all those scraps I'd been accumulating for a long time and decided to get scraps ready for him to sew together. This is his first quilt. I did the QAYG joining and the binding but the rest was his work. It measures 69x90 and fits his twin bed perfectly. He's pretty proud of it and I'm proud of him. Now he's ready to do another one...haha

Great quilt and wonderful way to help pass this long, long winter.

Cool! Looks like your husband found a new hobby. Was the work done using the machine in your avatar? Tinkering with the old machines is fun too.

nicely done... another quilter 'hooked' :)

MaryMo 02-19-2014 01:48 PM

super quilt! It looks like he had a lot of fun. Will you have to give him some of your space now?

GingerK 02-19-2014 02:03 PM

Looks like we have another convert. He did a great job. So when are you going to get him his own machine?

callen 02-19-2014 02:05 PM

Awesome................another "new" quilter !!!

That's awesome. The quilt and the story and your DH for giving it a go! Great work.
peace

retired2pa 02-19-2014 02:10 PM

Thanks everyone for the kind replies. I'll let him know.

Ginger...haha. I have 3 different machines that he used during this process but mostly he did all the piecing on my Janome 6600. He likes all three of them, though.

MaryMo...We have a very large man cave in our basement. Half of the room wasn't being used so I took it over last year when I moved my sewing space from a small 3rd bedroom upstairs, so technically, I took over his space :)

Good for him, he should be darn proud of it, and himself!!

Golly, he did good. That is a lot of sewing for either one of you. Nice!

tessagin 02-19-2014 02:57 PM

How wonderful! My DH can sew and he is a very detailed orientated person. Sometimes I have to tell him to back off a little. Love your DH quilt.

Intimistic 02-19-2014 03:04 PM

He did a great job. It looks better than my first quilt. I convinced my husband to try some quilting once because he has a very specific fabric style (green with leaves mostly) He finished two blocks and handed it over to me.

debcavan 02-19-2014 03:06 PM

Great quilt. Yeah for him.

luvTooQuilt 02-19-2014 03:24 PM

oh oh u just lost your woman cave. lol. that is how it happened at our house to. now my hubby sew all the time.
your hubby did a great job.

ChrisDee 02-19-2014 06:21 PM

I'm going to show this to my husband. I've been trying to find some thing to keep him busy this winter but he thinks "sewing is for women". Maybe if I tell him that a guy made it he'll be more willing to try it.
Wait a minute...then he'd have to be in my sewing room and that's my sanctuary. It's the one room of the house that he doesn't follow me around telling me the same stories, over and over and over.
Nope, I guess he'll just have to be bored!!!! :-)

cathyvv 02-19-2014 06:30 PM

It's amazing what boredom can inspire someone to do! The quilt is great, especially for a first quilt.

He's probably been thinking about asking you to share your toys for awhile! Good thing you play well with others!

Barb_MO 02-19-2014 06:38 PM

That's great! wish my husband would do some sewing, but he isn't interested. He does do math for me when I'm figuring how may squares I was get out of a strip of fabric.

gabeway 02-20-2014 05:47 AM

Another quilter is born! My wife and I love quilting together!

DebbE 02-20-2014 03:07 PM

Congratulations to your DH! He did a great job -- wish my hubby would catch the bug. I've tried to enlist his interest a number of times by asking him to help me move blocks around to the best effect, picking colors, etc, which he was happy to do -- but he won't go further. : (

Lady Jane 02-20-2014 04:30 PM
