What a beauty. I also have my grandmothers and I treasure her with all my heart.

I'm so happy you have this special treasure. I have the "red-eye" in a cabinet I bought at a moving sale in 1962, had given it to my mother to use a few years later...and got it again after her death in 1988. I moved it to my present home and stored it. I renewed my interest in Singers this year, and realized again what a treasure I have. Now I need to find room in my sewing room, rather than the garage! Enjoy your inheritance!

You have a lovely Singer with red eye decals. I would remove the motor and learn to treadle the machine as it was originally.
I have a machine just like yours. 1910 Singer red eye treadle. |
it is great, take off the motor and put a leather treadle belt back on it.. that is all you have to dooo! it really is not altered and you will love it, you know when it storms and you lose power is the time you want to sew........... glad you got it..

Worked like a charm the last time anyone tried it, which was probably 40 years ago (LOL). My mom got the machine from my grandmother, and I always knew it would be mine someday, since my sister doesn't sew. Mother died some 20 years ago and all her stuff stayed in the house with daddy. He passed away last spring, and we're just now sorting through everything. I am so proud of this machine. DH is in the process of cleaning it up, although it didn't look too bad considering the age. BTW, you should have seen the condition of the belts and the electric cord--bad, really bad. Another job for DH.

Beautiful machine...a real treasure you have there!! Sorry to hear about your dad.

Wow, that really makes my heart beat fast. It is beautiful and obviously well loved.

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad. Both my parents have passed on, Dad in 1993 and Mom in 1999. Some days I miss them terribly and I still cry sometimes, it does get easier; tears help to heal your spirit. Big hugs.
