Money is tight these days  . It was very disorganized with no prices on anything at all. I spied a small wicker basket filled with sewing notions and a 3 shelf stainless steel cart on wheels as well as a June Taylor "Quilter's Square n Blocker". When I asked about a price for these 3 items she said whatever. Then she said that if I was interested in sewing "junk"...(her very words), to go into a small closet off the kitchen door. OMG. The lady who had lived there had been a QUILTER. The only drawback was there was no electricity in the house and that tiny room was pitch black. That didn't deter me one little bit...I went and got my flashlight out of the car. And spent the next 3 hours amassing my stash in the empty bedroom next door!!! Would you believe that there was no one else interested in this?? A few stuck their head in, took a look and backed out again. Finally, I was getting tired and decided to call it quits...it was overwhelming by that time. The next 9 pictures shows what I got for $105.00. BTW, I had to go to an ATM and transfer the money from my savings to checking to a cash withdrawal because she wouldn't take a check. Here's the first three...

once in a life time find, great for u ,xmas come early

That is just a fantastic find. I'll bet it will keep you busy for a very long time. Just imagine the hands that assembled this stash and all of those tools. I particularly love the little plastic box with all of the yoyo's inside. You really SCORED!

Jennifer22206 03-15-2011 06:07 PM

I think you got a great deal!! I'm so happy for you!

debbieumphress 03-15-2011 06:21 PM

Motherlode there. You are so lucky. We just don't have those good fabric sales here. We have 110 in our guild and all up to their 80's. LOL. WE just live long lives. ROFL. Thanks for sharing.

Kitsapquilter 03-15-2011 06:23 PM

What a story and I believe you made out like a bandit!! You would have paid more than that at the store for just the rulers and mats alone!! Pays to be an early bird I guess. Or is it "if you snooze you lose"?

dyer804 03-15-2011 06:26 PM

Wonderful score! Love that "Cozy sewing room" cross stitch. I'm sure the original owner would be glad that someone who appreciates her things got them. Congratulations

jaymemade 03-15-2011 06:33 PM

Wow! I'm glad it went to someone who will use it.

I fell in love with that kit!! I sent a picture of it to DD and she said she would do it up and have it framed for me for Xmas. Not that sending the picture was a hint or anything like that...  . Besides, she knows she will get it when I'm gone.

LAB55 03-16-2011 04:20 AM

Then you might want to make sure you make it really clear to them, verbally and in writing, what you DO want them to do with it. Until my father figures out how to do it (and he's convinced he'll figure it out), we can't control others after we're gone!

No one so far has said what first came to *my* mind when you posted all this (and yes, OMG!!! what a find!):

If I were you (and money is really tight for me, as well), I'd separate out the items I could absolutely not live without from those I could and sell the rest on ebay. That's just how my mind is thinking these days....

That has got to be the grab of the century. What a stash, what a haul. You must have had the good fairy on your back that day.

quilter2theend 03-16-2011 04:46 AM

What a find! Hope I find something like that this summer at garage sales! Lucky you!

JoyjoyMarie 03-16-2011 05:09 AM

Happy Days are here again! Lucky you and Have a ball!

chickadee_42us 03-16-2011 05:17 AM

Wow - oh - Wow. Congratulations on the find and yet so sad that the sale was for someones possessions of pride that a family member could care less about. I work with a lady who did the exact same thing, sold everything her MIL had and NOW regrets it big time as she's become a quilter too!!! She comments all the time, I could have had that!!!

nabobw 03-16-2011 05:40 AM

Wow good find

ChildoftheUniverse 03-16-2011 06:25 AM

OMG you bought an entire store! A once in a lifetime event and you found it! Quilters envy, big time!

Quilting Pastor 03-16-2011 07:04 AM

I have that cozy sewing room cross stitch set. I've been trying to finish it for 20 years!!! It's my lifelong project. I feel connected to you!!!
