I made these Gaiters for my husband. The bottoms of jeans were always getting soaked from the snow and rain. I found the pattern online from a store in Corvalis, Oregon. They were easy to make, but it still took about two weeks....LOL But if I would have stayed on them it probably would have only taken a day or two to complete.

It is a waterproof shell with a canvas lining which I plan on spraying some waterproofing on them later today.

oooh thanks for posting this. I've been using my xcountry skiing gaitors, but they are way too short. I have some Cordura left over from a table cover I made, now I know what I'm going to do with it!

sueisallaboutquilts 01-16-2011 11:25 AM

Those are awesome!! Great idea! And I chuckled at your heading lol :D

KathyAire 01-16-2011 11:27 AM

Cool. Your husband's stance looks like he might be a natural model.

frugalfabrics 01-16-2011 11:42 AM

He's a sportin that model look...he must really love them (and you) if he's not taking them off...

lalaland 01-16-2011 11:44 AM

Great job! Useful and a fashion statement as well!

caliquocat 01-16-2011 01:07 PM

You did a great job on these. Not only will it keep is pantleg dry, it will also add extra warmth. Works like knee socks, only on the outside. :-)

ann clare 01-16-2011 01:07 PM

Cool

quiltwoman 01-16-2011 01:08 PM

Very nice!

He wore them to see how they worked, if they sagged or got in the way.

That is what he said, he came in and took them off.

charismah 01-16-2011 02:20 PM

Great Idea! You did a great job too!

valinwa 01-16-2011 04:43 PM

Nice job! I could use a pair, takes me about 8 mins to get from my car to my office building, and with all the rain we've been having the puddles are horrendous. My pants are always wet.

The pattern is rather easy.

Thanks everyone for the compliments.

Izaquilter 01-16-2011 07:12 PM

great job! they fit like they were made for him! lucky hubby & he gets to see where your fabric goes too!

sandpat 01-17-2011 06:37 AM

Cool idea! I wear knee high rubber boots...my problem is more mud than snow. I like the way your DH is "posing"...too funny!

What a great idea and yours came out fabulous, very professional.

Rock Lady 01-17-2011 04:35 PM

I need to make my son a pair of those. He works for the water company and comes home soaked at times. The water co. doesn't care if the men are covered or not.

grannypat7925 01-17-2011 04:44 PM

That ought to help keep the britches dry! Good job!!

Jingle 01-17-2011 05:32 PM
