My LBB all wrapped up with a bow.

After 8 plus months and somewhere around 1,500 hours my Little Brown Bird is all finish with a Little Blue Bow around it. As you can see I opted for a simplified appliqued border than the original pattern for 2 reasons...1st I had read all the problems an experienced long arm quilter had encountered with the pattern border and 2nd I was just tired of this quilt and wanted it finished. So this is what I ended up with.
Pictures:
1 - The finished quilt
2 - A look at the stippling around the appliques. You can't see it but I also outlined each applique with clear thread to give it a little more loft.
3 - A section of the white sashing around the four medallion squares showing the small wave quilting.
4 - The crosshatching on the border
5 - After fighting with a few of the appliqued blocks that wanted to pucker I decided to try the old hand quilting hoop to stretch the puckers out and what do you know it worked. I did have to move it quite often, but that is better than a whole lot of pucked quilting.

Thank you all for your continued support and encouragement without which i could never have made this amazing quilt.

https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/boy.gif Congratulations on your lovely quilt being done...and 8 months is awesome, considering all the time and work you have put into making it. It would have taken me 8 years.

Please share what plans you have for the quilt now that it's done...will you hang it at your home? Also did you make a label as I am sure this will be an heirloom and treasured forever.

I don't know what the original border is supposed to be, but I love the ribbon wrapping up the quilt. I followed the applique blocks and they are all beautiful. It;s a truly lovely quilt.

I think I will hang it on the spare bedroom wall. That's the only room that has an opening for hanging anything. And besides that's the room where all my company stays so they too can enjoy it while they are here.

I'm so happy for you and just a little bit jealous. Your ribbon border looks very nice and I'll have to agree, probably a lot less work. I'm still amazed at you doing this quilt in 8 months. You are certainly speedy.

As you know, I broke my arm in June.... a very bad break and I had to stop working on my LBB. I'm hoping that I can work on it again this fall and hopefully start working on the quilting early next year. We'll see. The arm is better but I'm still working on mobility and strength.

I'll continue with my posts when I'm able to make some more progress but still, so happy for you and your masterpiece. Congrats.

I'm so glad to hear your arm is healing. I wish you a speedy and complete recovery, but don't rush it. It's better to be a few months behind on your hoped for schedule than to lose some of your mobility. I will be looking forward to your future posts and cheering you on, just like you have always cheered me on.

Oh My! That is gorgeous. You did a great job on piecing, appliqué and quilting. Stunning. Love the idea of using a quilting hoop to help prevent puckering. I'm going to look into getting one specifically for that purpose!
