this is my great-grandson when he was 9 yrs old and his first quilt making effort

preparing to sew his quilt pieces by pinning triangles togethers.

Him sewing the pieces together

After sewing the pieces, it is important to press the seams in the direction you want them, so he is doing that

His finished quilt block...which by the way is named Shoo-fly. Isn't that a neat job he did? Notice how all the seams meet exactly, and he has good sharp points on his triangles?....Oh!..............I think I'm bragging! ;-))

MollieSue 11-17-2009 05:24 PM

He's so cute, sewing away!!! And I can't believe how his block came out absolutely perfect!! Good for him!!!!  :D

My two grandkids who live near me have just started sewing. One is almost 9, the other 6. I've not let them use the iron (or rotary cutter), but now will rethink that, after seeing how well your grandson is doing with it!!
:D

STAR 11-17-2009 05:40 PM

I haven't even made that block yet!!

tlrnhi 11-17-2009 05:48 PM

WOOHOO!!! WTG!!
He did a great job! But, then again, he's got a great teacher!

Barb_MO 11-17-2009 05:56 PM

He started this two summers ago. He worked on this block again this year when he visited. I gave him my oldest sewing machine to take home with him. I think he has his quilt almost finished now.

MollieSue 11-17-2009 06:05 PM

I would love to see pictures of his quilt!! And how neat that he stuck with it, and will have it completed!! :D :D

sharon b 11-17-2009 06:11 PM

WOW I wish I could get my points so good  Yes , I would love to see the completed top

CajunQuilter2 11-17-2009 06:23 PM

Better than I can do I tell ya. That is awesome. I too would love to see the completed quilt. Just think if he is this good now how totally awesome he will be years from now. Great masterpieces I have no doubt.

Eddie 11-17-2009 06:27 PM

Now those are great pics! Go Anthony, GO! And his points are perfect! Tell him we think he did a spectacular job and that we want to see more of his work! :D

Barb_MO 11-17-2009 06:35 PM

Thanks you all...I will have to show this to anthony next time he visits.
I am anxious to see his finished quilt also. I'm sure he will bring it to me to have quilted, so will have a chance to photograph it to share.

sewjoyce 11-17-2009 07:27 PM

He did a fantastic job!!! You have every right to brag!!! :D :D

Esqmommy 11-17-2009 07:58 PM

And brag you should!!!!!!!! What a total doll he is! First of all, he is an adorable boy!! My mom was a redhead, and I hoped to end up with one, no such luck. He's just sooooooooo cute. Then, on top of it, so intent and focused on his project...and check out those points! Wow...did he love it? Do you think he might want to make something more than just the one block? What fun...Thanks for sharing.

Barb_MO 11-17-2009 08:43 PM

Esqmommy, Anthony almost has a whole quilt made by now. Plus another one in the works.

Shemjo 11-17-2009 08:47 PM

How very precious!

SharonC 11-17-2009 08:53 PM

You will have to tell Anthony how we all think his points are great, he's adorable AND that it's wonderful that he stuck with his quilt top. Looking forward to seeing it when he visits you. You should be so proud....bragging about grandchildren is in our job description--it's a requirement :) :)
Congrats on a fantastic job.

sewnsewer2 11-17-2009 09:09 PM

That's it teach him young. You never know, he may be another Ricky Tims some day!

amma 11-17-2009 09:41 PM

What an awesome job oh his block!!! I hope that he continues, he is a natural 8) 8) 8)

Momwood 11-18-2009 09:14 AM

What a wonderful job! I have trouble getting the men in my life to just look at my work. They are all outdoorsmen. What a great memory for both of you. :D

Mplsgirl 11-18-2009 09:23 AM

Be proud, gramma! He is good!!!!!

Elsie 11-18-2009 09:32 AM

he looks like he know what he doing and that a nice job he did on the block

Grama Lehr 11-18-2009 09:42 AM

Good for you Grandma, sharing your craft!! It takes a special person to teach!

mamabird3 11-18-2009 09:49 AM

There's a quilter after my own heart, sewing barefoot!!

Love it!!

Barb_MO 11-18-2009 04:04 PM

The first thing my family remarked about that picture was he was barefoot.

Anthony really tries to do his best...he knows if it doesn't fit, he will have to rip!! I don't got easy on him just because he is young. I'm anxious to see how he is doing without my supervision. Must have him bring it down so I can inspect it before it's finished. Hard to rip out once it if put together. ;-)

rosalia856 11-19-2009 12:09 PM

Great Job! buddy. Keep up the good work.I wished my first blocked looked that good . Keep others in stiches with quilting.

key4unc 11-19-2009 12:31 PM

Pinkrose4664 11-19-2009 07:44 PM

kd124 11-19-2009 11:39 PM

Wow! What a fantastic job he did!! Triangles no less.

Sheree from Chicago 11-20-2009 09:37 AM

Thanks for sharing. He makes me smile!

Izy 11-20-2009 09:50 AM

What alot of talent for such tender years, helped no doubt by the fantastic tuition he received :D

I bet most of us didn't produce such a perfect block first time round...(in fact even now I struggle lol!!)

I look forward to seeing the whole quilt, please pass on my admiration of his work, he will go on to better and bigger things in his life, he shows he has concentration, determination to see a project thru to the end and most of a keen eye to detail!! :D :D :D

marla 11-20-2009 09:55 AM

YES HE DID A BEAUTIFUL JOB ON THOSE PONTS AND LEFT 1/4 IN. FOR SEAMS. I know you are proud. Not many kids learn a craft.

Stitchnripper 11-20-2009 02:08 PM

Adorable. Very brag-worthy indeed.

jojo47 11-20-2009 09:42 PM

And you should brag! The little guy did a great job! Nice colors in the block!

pennyswings 11-21-2009 10:00 AM

You have a right to brag so brag away!!! He is such a doll. Kids love doing projects like this, they are so uninhibited aren't they? My little grandsons love to help me sew.
By the way, the block came out awesome!! His points all match so perfectly. Does he give lessons??? LOL

Barb_MO 11-21-2009 03:37 PM

I wouldn't be surprised to hear he's giving lessons.

pennyswings 11-22-2009 05:41 PM

Barb, how awesome to hear he is almost finished with a whole quilt. You must be so proud of him and I bet he is proud of himself as well.
You look way too young to be a great-grandma by the way.

Barb_MO 11-22-2009 07:04 PM
