Very pretty! This is on my someday list!

fixfido 07-26-2010 11:09 AM

I watched one pieced on Simply Quilts once, and have never had trouble with Y-piecing after that. There's also a great pattern in the book, "Quilts, Quilts, & More Quilts" by McClun & Nownes that helped out a lot. I wonder if that episode on Y-piecing can be found in the Simply Quilts archives. I would recommend that to anyone who wants to do this kind of piecing. I must admit, I practiced, practiced, practiced.

GORGEOUS!!!

nlgh 07-26-2010 03:34 PM

In the past year, and I think it was before I joined the board, I saw an article that showed how to piece each row of the star, then sew the rows together. No Y seams. It involved a technique similar to putting Trip Around the World together. I hope this gives everyone an idea. I wish I could remember where I saw it. Maybe it's online somewhere by now.

Jingle 07-26-2010 03:50 PM

Bobbinchick 07-26-2010 08:57 PM

I ordered a printed interfacing that is a lone star pattern and no y seams at all. I'm making one now and it will be gorgious when it is done. Any way I got the pattern fron quiltsmart.com and it is so easy to do it is sort of a sew, flip and fuse type of thing and it is so easy and I have one more point to finish so i'm going to work on it tomorrow and wash clothes. Every one have a great evening, Huggies, Fay

littlehud 07-27-2010 09:24 AM

I also used the printed foundation from my lqs, I highly recommend trying this for any one afraid to try it,my points came out perfect. It was a little pricey, but well worth it for the outcome I finally got it quilted and hung on my wall,I can't believe I made that, sorry to say I catch my self admiring it. Please don't be intimidated by it try the foundation it will be worth it .I am an average sewer, so any one can handle it

I agree, but it was well worth the price I paid for it and I'm looking forward to getting it done. They are fast on the shipping too. I was so amazed that when I got the very first point done and then sewed the seams and turned the first row back and seen how perfect the seams were matching I says Wow! I made that ?? Oh it's going ot be beautiful I think. I'm just using some of the fabric that I had bought from a yard sale a couple Summers ago. I still have a big bag of scraps and I tried to fit the colors together the best I could. My mother was saying well this color clashes with that one and so on. I just stood there scratching my head. Once the quilt is done it'll be great, but it's too early yet as to how I'm going to qilt it. Have a great day, Huggies, Fay

iltoaz 07-28-2010 11:15 AM
