OK ... I'll confess, I just couldn't wait and after all the discussion today about this pattern ... I dug thru my stash to find a piece with four repeats. And went at it tonight.

I'm in awe and wish I had more of the fabric. The flowers were not huge, so I kept my squares smallish at only 2-1/2" each.

I love the fabric hope you show us the finish.

I'm not using a pattern ... just went with what everyone has been talking about.

dunster 04-09-2011 10:11 PM

That is beautiful! The black background really makes it pop. Are you going to use black for sashing?

dhanke 04-09-2011 10:18 PM

Your blocks are amazing. I spent 3 hours one night auditioning fabrics from my stash for 4pp and snw with a folding mirror, I had so much fun, I almost felt like I had made the blocks!

sewingmom3 04-09-2011 10:36 PM

it's amazing the patterns the fabric makes. Love it.

jemma 04-10-2011 12:55 AM

great effect love the fabric

jmabby 04-10-2011 01:53 AM

I also love your fabric, would love to see it when it is complete. What size are your squares??

Vickymomof6 04-10-2011 02:24 AM

Very, very nice!

alikigirl 04-10-2011 02:33 AM

Wow those look fantastic. I don't think I have ever seen a 4 patch posey that I did not like.

Ann L 04-10-2011 03:22 AM

How nice. I love it with the black.

emerald46 04-10-2011 03:51 AM

Love the fabric and the results! Great choice.

frauhahn 04-10-2011 03:52 AM

Love this fabric! So pretty!

kateyb 04-10-2011 04:12 AM

The stack and whack type quilts are so much fun. Yours is going to be very pretty.

kateyb 04-10-2011 04:13 AM

thequilterslink 04-10-2011 04:36 AM

love it!

And so the obsession begins... so innocently. And then you're hooked. LOL!

I made several of these and all different size blocks, and all different settings. If the pattern was gigantic, I cut bigger squares to begin with. I used 2" cuts, 2 1/2', and even 4" cuts. The size of the cuts really depended on my fabric.

Isn't it great how we share and inspire each other? Love them all.

LadybugPam 04-10-2011 05:37 AM

I have made a few 4-patch posies quilts. Yours is wonderful!! I am inspired to pull out some fabric and make another lap quilt.
Thanks!

NovisQuilter 04-10-2011 05:41 AM

Please tell me how a stack and whack works. I am such a newbie it's pitiful :-). I seem to have more questions than advice to this forum. I do appreciate everyones kindness and patience with my question. There will be so many more.

plainpat 04-10-2011 05:43 AM

Your squares look great! Gonna be a pretty quilt.

SJoy ... you've summed up my first week here as a Newbie. I'm totally hooked ... on this Board and on 4PPS and OBW, and my brain has overfloweth with all the ideas, stimulation and inspiration. Not that I was lacking on the ideas part before ... but the stimulation and inspiration is more than dangerous for me!!! I DO have other things I MUST do!!! :)

All ... I just HAD to get at it! And couldn't wait to try it out and took the first piece I found in my stash that I thought may work. It didn't even have the full 4 repeats, about 3-1/2, only about a metre. I've kept about ten inches along the selvedge left, as I wanted to be sure to have some to show the original fabric. Maybe setting squares? Borders? Not sure!

The pattern wasn't overly big, so I figured I'd better keep the square size down to 2-1/2", or I wouldn't get the kaleidoscope effects.

I just stuck them up on my design wall as I went, and that's what you see. I'm not sure on the sashing yet ... my eyes were too bleary by the time I got to that point! I'm not a big fan of black and I have been thinking about purple (that'd be blackish, right?) or a green? or ??

Please post thoughts and suggestions!!

Dunster ... I'm not a big black fan because of my vision problems, and would you believe the last two quilts I've done have had black?? So I'm kind of tired of struggling with it and would like to get away from it now.

I've been wondering about purple and/or green? Thoughts?

Ha! ... I didn't waste time on the auditionning ... If it had four repeats, it was a GO!!! And I was willing to risk the results. To be safe, I only cut off six inches the length of it first ... and if I didn't like the results, then I would have had the rest of the fabric left to return back to the stash!

I think green would be great, would be like a garden. Purple would be lovely too. Even white might look like a trellis in front of a garden. Putting them on point would be pretty if you want the trellis effect.

newquilter10 04-10-2011 06:02 AM

That is such pretty fabric. Will be eager to see the finished piece.

LovingIzabella 04-10-2011 06:03 AM

Love it!! Have this pattern to try...thank you for sharing yours
Hugs

LyraJean 04-10-2011 06:10 AM

I agree with Dunster and do white sashing on point for a trellis effect.

frenchrose 04-10-2011 06:11 AM

wow i never knew you could take a piece of fabric like that and turn it into blocks that look so pretty it gave it a wow.

sandpat 04-10-2011 06:23 AM

Really cool...now you are gonna make me start another WIP....LOl!

QuiltE 04-10-2011 06:33 AM

More thoughts, please ......

With the smaller squares, do you think a double colour sash and corner posting would be too much? Or KISS and go for a single?

Dunster, you suggested white ... what about a soft yellow that goes with the fabric? Or too close and would lose the kaleidoscopes?

The only reason I suggested white was that I was thinking of trellises. There's no reason it wouldn't be lovely with yellow. Sometimes it makes the pattern seem to float if the sashing blends in with it. That can be lovely. Audition some yellow and see whether that's the look you like best. If you post 5 different sashings you will surely get 5 different responses (or more).

QuiltE 04-10-2011 09:31 AM

Thanks ... I know what you mean, Dunster about the multiple opinions!

I just like to see/hear ideas to help inspire.

The trellis thought has me thinking ... I have a Rose Trellis away at the LAQ right now, and I just might use the trellis technique that I did with it. Or ... may keep this first 4PP simple!

We'll see!! :)

amma 04-10-2011 01:17 PM

Ooooo you made that pretty fabric even prettier :D:D:D
Can't wait to see the quilt!
