My "mini me" learned to sew yesterday

2 Attachment(s)
My neighbor's daughter, Sydney came over yesterday with her new little sewing machine. She learned what the parts of the machine are called, how to sew a straight line and not run over her fingers. She also learned how frustrating it is to have to stop and rethread your needle! LOL It was a great afternoon. She wants to make a pillow for her bed. I think we can manage that :) Maybe next week!

Sydney and I love the same things - crafts, pink, girly lace and frills, shoes that sparkle or light up and now sewing. Hence, my "mini me". Her Nana just taught her to knit too! I'm amazed how fast she is able to learn and master all these skills. She just recently turned 7.

Thanks for looking.

Great Job and keep her learning... My grandchildren love the stories that tells something about how this block came to be...Thanks for sharing

I think most Grandparents (grandmothers) are so proud to hand down the arts the we have learned, maybe from our grandparents and the great grandmothers and etc. I know I'm. A couple of my granddaughters love to go down and check out what I am working on and if she can get her blocks (I gave her a drawer to keep her pieces in.) the grandboys just mostly ask what I am working on, and proceed in giving me their opinions. which I really enjoy. but they always ask who is the lucky one.

Sydney is beautiful in sew many ways. My DGD and DGS each know how to sew with my machines and they love it. What is the brand of sewing machine Sydney received?

The brand is "Totally Me". I think I saw this on Amazon. She got it from her grandma from Ohio. Today she was teaching her twin brother how to use the machine. He was most interested in pushing the foot pedal. She's practicing on her own today sewing the 2 and 1/2 inch blocks together in a continuous thread. Her mother (who can't sew on a button) told me Syd was "sewing some sort of banner" lol

You are a great neighbor, and teaching her at such a young age with the correct skills will stick with her!

tessagin 01-13-2015 06:03 AM

She's adorable! So is her choice of fabric.

Texas_Sue 01-13-2015 06:13 AM

What fun! I can't wait to see if my GD will be inclined to make quilts, crochet or other projects that we can share.

Mariposa 01-13-2015 06:17 AM

What a cutie! Neat that you two have these precious times together to teach her great things! :)

IrishgalfromNJ 01-13-2015 07:31 AM

You must be the coolest neighbor ever. So nice of you to teach her the basics and get her started on a lifelong love of sewing. She looks so happy and proud. Please post a picture of her pillow when she finishes.

lue 01-13-2015 08:48 AM

Thank goodness for patient, kind neighbors! Beautiful all the way around!

She is off to a good start.

matraina 01-13-2015 09:34 AM

She's doing a great job. My granddaughter is 9 and took her first sewing lesson last Saturday and will take a second one this coming Saturday. She loves crafts; and after watching her mother sew (a beginner), she wanted to take up sewing also.

Carol34446 01-13-2015 10:07 AM

Kids are smarter than we realize sometimes. Adorable mini me and she did a great job and so did you. Both of you keep up the good work, and pictures.
