Last year, an acquaintance found in a garage sale several old quilt blocks with ladies & umbrellas appliques. My daughter took pics of the blocks and sent to me. My daughter loved the blocks so much that I copied them by drawing my own girls/umbrellas, appliqued them using the same technique and set them in a quilt for her. She knew I was working on it but was very surprised to find out that it was hers. She loves it.
(Lace on bottom of skirts does not show very well in pics.) Again, hand quilted. Pic looks like blues but actually lavendars. |
What a great gift. I am sure it would take me years to do a quilt like that. I really like the colors in the quilt.

WOW gorgeous :)

Linda, this is beautiful quilt. Truly a labor of love. Your daughter will truly be surprised and very happy.

How amazing! When my FIL passed away, my BIL found boxes of fabric from my FIL's mother. Believe it or not, she also embroidered the design you have done. There are several completed and a few almost done. It is so wonderful to see that design. You have done an amazing job!

This reminds me of the crochet pillow cases that my Mom used to make.
Very pretty quilt. |
What a beautiful quilt. I can see why she loved those ladies. Great job and thanks for sharing.

I love the colonial lady designs. I wish I could find the 30's and 40's embroidery designs that I have seen pics of or embroidered ones in "antique" stores. I think you have done a very good job on your quilt.
My aunt appliqued a pair of pillowcases with a colonial lady and gave them to me 50 years ago. I still have them and treasure them. |
Your quilt is gorgeous, your daughter must love it. Thank you for sharing.
|
Love the way it turned out.... you sure did a wonderful job I am sure your daughter will treasure it. The quilting is also very nice. Did you hand quilt or was it done on a long arm????? either way it's great.
|

Your quilt is beautiful. I love the colors and how you set it together. You really did a great job. What beautiful quilting, too.
I have one of the Umbrella Girl quilts that my Mama made many years ago from scraps.(she passed away last year). She told me that she would never get rid of that quilt because it was her favorite. About a year or so before she began to get sick, she told me, "Mary I want you to have this quilt and I reminded her that she said she would never get rid of it. She said, "You have been so good to me, that I want you to have it". It is the most treasured quilt in my collection which is many. |
I love that quilt!! Your handquilting is so nice!!! :D

I inherited some blocks from my MIL with a similar pattern. These were made on old flour sacks. I set them together even though my skills are not refined because I couldn't stand seeing them hidden away in a trunk and not enjoyed after so much work involved to make the blocks.
|
I love it. Your daughter is very lucky. But then, she knows that.

I love it and would like to have the patterns for the lovely ladies. Maybe you could publish and sell them. Or would that be a copyright infringement?
Anyway, the quilt is beautiful and your work is excellent. I'm sure your daughter really appreciates it. |
OH, for pretty! Love it!
