Cathy, absolutely beautiful - what size hexagons did you use and what is the pattern for the second quilt? Love them both - Do you do the English Paperpiecing on your hexagons or just template and turn under as you go?
Thank you for sharing. |
my template is 4 inches. I sew the front sides together and then finger press. This gives them a 1/4 inch seam. Eventually there will be a full-queen size quilt top. Takes a while. I have no idea how to paper piece. I tried it once, hated the result, must have done something terribly wrong. Threw it out, so you know it was bad.
The round one is done on machine for the top. Then hand quilted the backing. I truly don't like machine quilting for me. I have seen some great results from others. Can't match points. |
Oh my gosh, you are a master quilter. I am so impressed.

Oh No I am far from a master quilter. I can only make hexagon quilts by hand. I have the templates to make other patterns but cannot figure them out. So I end up back to the hexagon patterns again. By the way, I love yours in your picture. I would love to be able to make a pattern like that and have it turn out. |
Cathy, both of your quilts are gorgeous. I've never seen a bargello done in the round, that is unique.

The search and layout took longer to do than the sewing. |

The pattern for the round quilt is called: Bergello in the round. Only problem I had was trying to figure out what to put in the center. When done there is a hole about 5 inches round.
|
You did that all by hand??? WOW! You did a wonderful job. All of them are so very pretty. The round one is out of this world 8-)

One really wouldn't need to purchase a pattern. Just draw a wedge on heavy paper, start at 1 inch wide and draw from that 2 feet (at least) to 5 inches wide. Then mark off each inch. That is what my template looks like only in clear hard plastic. I cut my fabric in strips then sewed them together. Needed about 35 different graded in lights to darks (cools to darks) according to the book. Then cut the wedges from the large piece. stagger the template to the next color as you cut. sew all the wedges together. You will end up with a circle with a hole in the center. One could make this with larger strips using less various colors.
Make sense? if not let me know and I can have a go at explaining it again. |
