My Mother's Prayer Quilt
4 Attachment(s)
My life has turned upside down these past few months. My Mother has Alizhiemers, and most of you who have dealt with this know what a horrible disease this is. On New Year's Eve she was put into a nursing home. She had broke her arm the day before and that night took the cast off and fell again waking my Dad. She did a lot more damage that time. Then in the middle of the month my DH had a mole removed, it came back cancer. At the first of Febr. my Mother had a stroke and was put in the hospital with phnemonia. My sister and Dad both called to say I should come home to Nebr. My DH canceled his scheduled surgery to go home with me. Dr. said it could go either way with her. While I was there and from all the prayers being said for her she recovered and even got some of her swallowing back but not enough to sustain her so we had to make the call to put a feeding tube in her stomach. I am glad to say she is doing much better and back at the home. She is unable to go back home at this time and may never. My DH and I came home so he could have his surgery to remove the area around his mole on his back. It was between his shoulder blades and is a hard place to heal because of the area it is in. I am glad to say his report came back no cancer in the surrounding area. I finished this quilt for my Mother. It is her prayer quilt. I quilted it with praying hands for the number of people praying for her. I quilted crosses for her beautiful faith. I quilted roses for her inner and outer beauty. She taught me how to sew and it has led me to this. I hope you enjoy her prayer quilt. I put minkie on the back to make it soft for her. Thank you all for looking at my Mother's quilt.

It is so hard to deal with aging issues in our parents, somehow as long as they are around, part of us can still be a kid. I know the fears you've gone through, I've lost both of my parents and it's hard to face.

Very beautiful!

Sorry to hear life has been so difficult, but happy to hear DH is going to be okay. What a lovely quilt and the meaning of using the representation of each item. Prayer can give us so much comfort while going through difficulties.
|
I can feel your love for your mother as I viewed the pictures of this quilt. You did a wonderful job with it and I am sure it will bring her comfort when she uses it. I will lift your mother in my prayers today. God Bless!
|
Wonderful quilt. May God bless you, your Mom and all your family
|
Sounds like life is a difficult thing right now but you seem to know where to turn for comfort. I took care of an aunt with alzhiemers and it is no fun. Now I think my husband is going into it. Prayers go up for you.
|
Use it on her. she will feel the love. It is tough to become the Mother instead of the daughter. I'm doing that with my sister now in a nursing home. Barny

It seems to all come at once, but you will get thru this. Your quilt is beautiful, and I love the meanings behind all the stitches. I'm fairly new here, but have gotten to recognize most everyone on this website, and they are all remarkable people who are there for you when you need to express yourself. Take care, and keep quilting.... it will keep you sane!
|
A beautiful tribute to your Mother and your faith. Seems like the difficulties come in bunches, don't they. We are all pulling for you thru this rough patch.
|
Beautiful quilt for your mother......but most importantly it was made with love for her....and prayer with every stitch. Hugs and thoughts and prayer for all of you.....
|
Praying for all of you as you go down this path...you know it is only for season and as the Lord provides the strength you need...you will be blessed. I have had similar struggles with parents aging and as I look back - so many great things happened while in the midst that I now am glad I went through it all.

The quilt is absolutely beautiful. I don't know how you kept the strength and will to do something like that with all the worry you have had. You did a wonderful job on it. I'm so glad your hubby is ok and pray that your mother will at least be comforted in her illness. I lost my mother 4 years ago today at the age of 97. You never reach a place where you're ready to give them up. Prayers are with you.

It is beautiful and I am sure each stitch was with a prayer and those prayers are reflected in the beauty of your quilt. God can turn anything negative into his purpose of the good. Look at that quilt it is the evidence.
I am thinking of doing a quilt for my Mom and will require prayer's to get this going more. I liked the idea of minky fabric for a backing but have never used it before. Can you PM me and let me know how to use this minky fabric, Thank you Grace |
This is a beautiful quilt and you put so much love into it. Bless you. I've been where you are.
|
it is a beautiful quilt and the sentiments behind it make it even more so. Big HUGS!!! This is one of those times in your life where you will look back amazed at how you got thru everything-It will be because the Lord carried you.
