This is the pinwheel star dog bed, I just made for a friend of mine. Her two dachshunds, Emmy and Kacee, are the models. ;)

O M G! Those are too, too cute! And the beds are, too... LOL! I'm just kidding you! I LOVE those beds! They are super! And it looks like "the kids" agree with me! Kudos!

littleone 05-08-2012 06:48 PM

Fantastic job, and I am sure the kids love them too...................

IngeMK 05-08-2012 06:48 PM

that looks great! is it a fleece backed quilt? with a separate round bed?

erstan947 05-08-2012 06:54 PM

Love the beds and they are a hit with the puppers too! Thanks for the inspiration:)

Thanks, everyone! It's really just one bed; the pups are taking turns on it. The top is backed with fleece, made separately, then half of it is sewn into the bed, which has a fleece top. Once it's sewn together, it forms a fleece "pocket" for the dogs to crawl into. I made an inner pillow, so the cover can be removed and washed.

My friend and I had bought similar beds (plain fabric tops), many years ago, from a lady on a message board. Several years ago, we were told she had passed away. Eventually, those beds wore out and my friend was wanting another one (without holes), so I offered to make her one. I wanted to make it special, so added the double-sized quilt block. It didn't turn out as well as I'd hoped; I used 1/2" seams, ironed all to the side, and trimmed NOTHING, in order to make it sturdier. The seams got a bit bulky, around the middle . . . but since my friend also sews, I knew she'd forgive the puckering . . . and the dogs never noticed seams! LOL Here's the inside, with all three of her pups.

That is sooo cute! Love them! Love the bed. We used to have dachshunds when we were growing up and did they have personalities??!! Gorgeous pups!

Great dog bed. And very cute models!

And people have complained when their quilts end up with the dog sleeping on them. Here's a perfect example of how our four-legged friends are getting just what they deserve, made especially for them - with love. That is just the cutest thing ever. I would be tempted but my brute of a dog would chew it to bits within a day.

jaciqltznok 05-08-2012 07:33 PM

just wonderful! and doxie approved I see!

mighty 05-09-2012 07:04 AM

Awesome!!!

AnitaSt 05-09-2012 07:36 AM

Yep...I gotta make one like this for my doxie. He loves to arrange the covers on his bed or burrow into a piece of fleece. He would love this.

debcavan 05-09-2012 07:37 AM

It is beautiful and such a fabulous idea.

fivepaws 05-09-2012 08:18 AM

That is the neatest thing going. We have a hairless Chinese Crested who would love something like that. Thanks for sharing your wonderful dog bed.

beatys9 05-09-2012 08:22 AM

Love it & it seems your fur babies do too! I'd love to make such a thing but my toy aussie views the world as her chew toy...she's 15 months so hoping she grows out of it.

Nanaquilts44 05-09-2012 08:31 AM

This is just adorable! You did a really nice job and I can see how well it is appreciated!

Neesie 05-09-2012 08:45 AM

Thanks for the compliments, everyone! I'll pass along the oohs and ahhhs, to Diane (my friend, for whom I made the bed) and I'm sure she'll inform the puppers how loved they are! :)

Quilt Novice 05-09-2012 10:35 AM

Greenheron 05-09-2012 01:22 PM

Thanks! :-) No pattern, except for the Pinwheel Star block; I enlarged a 12" to a 24" block. As for the bed, I'd bought one from someone (years ago) but since my pup preferred a different bed, I sent the bed to my friend (hers had worn out). I remembered how it had been put together, so made up my own pattern. The "pattern" is pretty much just a large circle. LOL

EvelynJ 05-09-2012 03:25 PM

The dogs look terribly mistreated lying in their wonderful new bed. With a 'blanket' as well! I want to be reincarnated as your dog!

anndr 05-10-2012 03:00 AM

You should design or at least diagram the pattern with instructions and sell the pattern. I can't do anything without a pattern. If you decide to do so, please contact me. I have a 5-lb. Yorkie that would just love a bed like this!

gsbuffalo 05-10-2012 03:01 AM

way to cute.

quiltingnana1 05-10-2012 05:05 AM

These are really cute! What blessed puppies to have their own seamstress! I love the pocket idea. Might keep the puppies out of the human bed! :-)

lfstamper 05-10-2012 05:09 AM

The inspectors definitely approve! Very cute.

MaggieLou 05-10-2012 05:34 AM

How cute!! I love the idea of the pocket they can hide in.

vickig626 05-10-2012 06:29 AM

love it !!!!
My doxie would love this.

I doubt the doxies will stay off the big bed. Mine thinks we sleep with him ... LOL

LOL Those are my friend's three dogs . . . and they are VERY loved! She just spent a small fortune on Benji (the Yorkie-mix), who had a stent inserted into his nasal cavity, to help him breathe. The procedure is new and Benji is one of the first patients to have it done; is still on meds to control the inflammation. My friend designs, sews, and sells dog clothes and doxie harnesses (vest type), and is working overtime, to help pay off Benji's medical expenses. She also cooks them special food, when they're sick. If I were reincarnated, I'd want to come back as one of HER dogs! LOL
