I started this quilt right after my dad passed away. I was making it for a family member but when it was done I realized WHAT I had done....all my tears and thoughts of my dad were in in every stitch. The label says : Remembering Daddy ~ Love Sis..with the date. I will never be able to part with it. =)

LindaM 10-08-2010 08:01 PM

Ronna, so sorry for your loss. The quilt is gorgeous - just glows. I wouldn't be able to part with it either ... it's ok to treat yourself.

Beautiful! I totally relate to what you are saying. I had just finished my first quilting class when I lost my father this past July and honestly, I think it is what has made the last three months tolerable. Of course the wonderful people on the board here have helped too :D Thank you for sharing such a wonderful piece.

By all means keep it. I recently lost my father and I know how you feel. You can always do another one for your family member.Sending prayers to you.

blahel 10-09-2010 12:26 AM

its not easy losing a loved one and making the quilt probably helped you while you grieved and it is great that you are keeping it for yourself. Not only is it a beautiful quilt but it also has special meaning just for you..priceless... as they say time is a great healer and when you wrap yourself in that quilt you will remember all the special times with your dad.

earthwalker 10-09-2010 12:43 AM

My dad kept very little clothes...he was just that way. But I want to make my mom a memory quilt out of his shirts and pants. He kept a printed cheat quilt on his bed and I'll use that for the backing and his sheets for the middle. That way its all him. Thats really going to be a hard one to do....but its for my mom. Thank you everyone for the kind comments. I appreciate them very much.

grann of 6 10-10-2010 04:25 AM

Yes, keep it without any guilt. I lost my dad suddenly when I was 18. So I know what you have gone through. I have a fleece and flannel throw I made for my husband when he was battling lung cancer, to keep him toasty warm. I feel sad when I see it, remembering what he went through, but it also makes me feel happy to touch it, knowing how much he loved it. And my older grandkids like wrapping in it too remembering their "Pepop" cuddling in it.

mimee4 10-10-2010 10:50 AM

The quilt would be beautiful no matter what, but the tears and grieving make it that much more beautiful. Hug it when you are missing your dad. May you be comforted.

nannya54 10-10-2010 01:42 PM

Lost my father this year too, I'm mulling over the one I want to make to remember him so I can wrap up in it when I miss him too much.

Yours is lovely, and you're right, all your thoughts are in it so it's already "home".

Mariposa 10-11-2010 03:46 PM
