We bought this old building from the Bible camp our kids went to in the summers. They buildt new cabins and needed to get rid of the old ones so here is one of them... The only problem is its hot in the summer and cold in the winter. South Dakota hot equals about +130' and cold in the winter equals about -40', so mostly it is for storage. Plus no electricity so I have to run a drop cord to it if I want to use it in the night and have on a light (which brings out the bugs) or plug in a radio or sewing machine or what have you... thought you'd like to see a quilt in another location other than on a wall or bed.. I am going to do my mail box this summer wait to see that...

Novel approach. The quilts look like are at home

can we see a closer view of the Our Lady of Guadalupe quilt?

GrannieAnnie 03-27-2011 09:12 PM

Just now noticed your clothesline guard! Cutie.

Always In Stitches 03-27-2011 09:12 PM

The large one was at the AQS show in Des Moines a few years ago I'll look for a photo..

Always In Stitches 03-27-2011 09:15 PM

Yea, that is Katie Jo, She is my "Cheapest hired hand", here on the ranch. Boarder collie, that moves cattle to pastures and helps me gather them to move to other pastures. She lets me know when there is a skunk in the area too! I love her!

earthwalker 03-27-2011 09:22 PM

It's delightful...love the whole thing...that is a brilliant photo. Would make a great card or biscuit tin pic. What could be more perfect, a "quilted" quilter's cabin, a line full of quilts and a part-time inspector (when she's not herding). Thanks...you brightened up my afternoon!

squilter 03-27-2011 09:26 PM

I agree, it would make a beautiful picture, you could hang it in your sewing room. I love it.

maggie2122 03-27-2011 09:34 PM

Very cute quilt building and beautiful quilts on the line!

I got in this challenge one day. As you can see by the picture. the deal was you had to use some of the frilly trim, some of the apple blossom fabric, some of the buttons and it had to have a blue back ground and be a small size. So I was reading about all the different kinds of foods and spices in the Bible and it hit me what I should make for my challenge. Because earlier that morning I had went to town for parts and after using the rest room, I later figured out that I had pretty much humiliated myself upon leaving the building. So like usual I reach for the Bible to comfort me when I feel an over whelming amount of stress coming over me. As I was looking for comfort the food topic came to mind and pretty soon I was studying foods spices and had forgotten my humiliation. I always want to bear good fruit for my God after all he has provided me with all kinds of fruit and after my mishap at the parts store he gave me relief from embarrassment so "tada" my challenge was created. plus I has seem something similar in an email I had gotten months earlier... I hope this helps you to bare good fruit in your days ahead! :)

My chalenge quilt, that was for sure and certain

Insulate it, ad some elec, sheetrock the inside walls, paint or wallpaper them and have a neat "quilt cave" to get away in and enjoy the solitude..love your view & the quilts airing on the line..

Ok here is the story on my "angel quilt". I call it "My babies Angel", my baby is my husband. He goes on these hunting trips ever so many years, (I think to prove that he still can) to CO to Elk Hunt. (he has never brought home an elk yet) but the thing is that when he is gone and we are apart, we are both actually miserable, because it is like part of us is missing. Anyway, on his last trip, when he came off the mountain in some little po-dunk town (a.k.a. tiny town) waiting for the other guys to get their showers and clean up to head home and he spied a quilt shop, so he went in and told the people that he wanted to take something home to his wife and that she was a quilter, "BLESS THEIR HEARTS", the first thing they asked him was is she a good quilter, ( or fishing for info on my skill level) He said, well, she wins lots of ribbons (mostly best of show at the county fair, Ha Ha!) at quilt shows all over and she makes a lot of quilts. To which they replied we have the perfect thing for her. He said, "Well I kind of want it to depict some character of this area", (which to them was kind of south western) anyway, they showed him the "Monticello angel quilt pattern, plus fabric (kit) and yardage of a southwestern boarder fabric) And they put it all together in a nice reusable bag and sent him home proud as a peacock. of course the other guys had no idea he had went shopping for his wife, but it is just something he does for me whenever we are apart. And it was so funny he got home about 4 a.m. and I greeted him on the steps and the first thing he said was I got you something with a shitty ass grin on his face. He was so proud of himself. :) . I just love him to death! He really isn’t much of a hunter he mostly likes to see the BIG country, ride his horses over the continental divide and work with his horses and pack out the other guys elk plus he loves the camaraderie and that is what he enjoys. So look for (or google) quilt shops around the Wolf Creek Pass or Pagosa Springs, CO area and then call them and ask about a pattern called Montella or something like that. That is the best I can help you out with finding it. It was juried into the AQS show in Des Moines, Iowa a few years ago and hung in that show. It didn’t win any ribbons but it was nice to know my work was good enough to get into a show like that. Happy Hunting. Oh and here is a better picture of our quilting cabin. Will post a better picture of “My babies Angel when I find one!

A better view of the front of my quilting cabin, notice the front quilt isn't finished, Sound familiar?

That cabin is awesome and so is your yard! Hmm... you could get a tax rebate on some solar panels.

It says Stars and Tulips on the paper, but do you think that is the real name and does anyone know where to find the pattern?

Scrap Happy 03-28-2011 08:18 AM

Bren, what a romantic story about your husband and you!! You 2 are living a beautiful life together. The building and yard where you live is a little piece of paradise.
