I joined this board months ago and keep looking in on everyone's work but hadn't figured out how to post photos. So I am finally trying to do that and I hope it works. I have been quilting for four years now and love love it. Following are some photos of two of my quilts. The Blue and White one is my most recent and is an Evelyn Sloppy pattern. The other one I did two years ago and hangs on my wall in the lounge.

They are all nice but the blue is my favorite.

amma 05-03-2008 06:54 PM

Beautiful quilts :D I really like them all :D

barnbum 05-03-2008 07:06 PM

I LOVE the "Quiltmaker's Gift" books!!! I made the Friendship Star" with the scrappy blues in the background from that book. It's the one she's throwing out the window so the kind can't get it! I fell in love with it the second I saw it and KNEW I had to make it. I gave it to my grandmother, and when she died :( I got it back. It hangs on the back of the chair to my sewing machine to she's near me when I'm quilting.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful quilts. :D

Lucky Patsy's 05-03-2008 09:26 PM

Fantastic free motion work! And only your second attempt? I am impressed!

Maria C 05-03-2008 10:22 PM

Wow - thanks for your comments. I also have made the friendship star quilt from the Quiltmakers Gift as I loved it. It was a the second quilt I ever did. I would love to see a picture of your one Karla. I am in between quilts as I have some other 'work' to do but I am planning a paisley blended pastel quilt my daughter would like. I prefer scarp quilts usually. Thanks again for your positive feedback.

Maria

sewsewquilter 05-04-2008 04:08 AM

Both are beautiful. And WOW!!! The free motion looks like you have been doing it a while. Maybe there is hope for me doing free motion. I hope my second try at it looks half as good at yours.

Maria--here's the Friendship Star from "The Quiltmaker's Gift." I found the pattern somewhere and just copied her colors. They are so me. :D When one of my students gave me a gift card to Border's Books, I bought the quilt book that goes with the book. I haven't made anything out of it YET. :D I think it's 412th on my list.

I machine quilted around the the stars, and hand quilted a heart for Gram between stars. She loved flowers.

tlrnhi 05-04-2008 05:26 AM

That is so pretty!
I have some of that same fabric!
I have the blue roses and the other pink rose fabric you used.

Extreme Quilter 05-04-2008 06:27 AM

All of them are really impressive! The blue one had the "wow" factor for me. Never stop quilting.

Moonpi 05-04-2008 06:31 AM

I love the sawtooth border.

Jaynie 05-04-2008 02:37 PM

Marie, what talent you have. Great color choices and beautiful quilts. Did you do the machine quilting yourself...if so "great job".

Maria C 05-04-2008 04:39 PM

Thanks for the pic of your frindship star. Nice job and of course I happen to like pink and blue too. I will get a photo of my one to show you soon. I did a machine quilting class a few months after I first learnt to quilt and it was the best thing I ever did as I can't afford to get it done professionally so it was do a class or never have a quilt finished. It was really inspiring and I recommend it to anyone. I was my most adventurous with the pink and blue quilt as I had not long done the class and I think it is probably the best I have done since as well. I need another shove to be more daring again.

barnbum 05-04-2008 04:46 PM

Maria-do you ahve any helpful hints you learned about machine quilting you'd like to share? I've never taken a class on anything having to do with sewing--so it takes me twice as long to figure everythng out. I am trying to follow a book this summer....

Maria C 05-05-2008 02:36 PM

My guild ran the class that I took and it was the only class I did for the following two years until the symposium came up. If you have a friend who does machine quilting get them to guide you one wet weekend day perhaps as seeing it done can help. When I did my class I hated my work. It really looked so unskilled but....I persevered and pulled out my test piece again a month or so down the track and thought it wasn't as bad as I remembered. Now I practice a new pattern briefly and then my quilt I am working on becomes my practice piece as it is the repitition that helps you improve. Really doing a pattern over and over does help you get better. I see every quilt as a practice of some sort - piecing or quilting etc. My friend told me that once. She said "why not have a finished project to demonstrate a skill you learnt instead of an entire lot of practice squares not particularly useful to anyone. So.....give it a go and persistence is probably the only way to improve. Good luck.

beachlady 05-05-2008 06:11 PM

Love both of your quilts ladies.

I have finally finished a quilt for my grandson. It sure has been instructive. I have learned very many lessons. Here it is.

buffy9784 05-06-2008 03:50 PM

I have that Quiltmakers gift book...actually I have both! They are great books...very clear instructions. Very good books for beginner quilters like me! Truly beautiful quilt!!

kd124 05-06-2008 11:44 PM

These are wonderful quilts. I really like the blue and white.

Rebecca Chambley 05-07-2008 12:21 AM

AWWWWWWWW,That is so sweet......Very Nice.

Nita 05-08-2008 03:59 AM

Okay, I'm missing something here. I, too, have "The Quiltmaker's Gift". Our Quilt Guild donated a copy to the local library and I liked the story so much that I bought a copy for my Grandma Book shelf. Now, where did you get the patterns? Online? 'Cause I just checked my book again and there are no quilt patterns in it. I would love the Evylen Sloppy pattern (Not sure if I spelled that right). The blue quilt is very nice, too, but I'm partial to the scrappy quilt look. I guess because I'm not that good yet and scrappy quilts are very forgiving. Ha ha

ania755 05-09-2008 06:33 AM

Maria Cross and Barnbum- I love your quilts and the blues are great, some of my favorite colors. I have some of the fabrics you both used.
Pattyspug- Nice quilt and I love your Prarie Points.

barnbum 05-11-2008 02:07 PM

Nita--there is a quilt book of the patterns--and a lot of the story!! I never knew it existed until I rummaged thorugh the ones for sale at Borders. It was an easy decision for me to pick that one. Let me know if you need the title....or picture of the cover.

jdavis 06-26-2010 02:59 PM

I just saw your avatar as I was reading another post.....both of these quilts are very nice.....I really like the blue one. Nice job! So glad you figured out how to post pics!
