I've always wanted to do a 'jar' project wall hanging...so this week I decided to give it a try...started with the jars one evening this week and then did the rest today....
So the top is done - now just need to finish it..another UFO!!!! :-)
It was a lot of fun though and made up rather easily and quickly..... FInished it's about 22 in. x 40 in.....

Cute!

Elisabrat 02-06-2010 02:53 PM

I love the little twist with the cloth "hanging" off the shelf. Very cool. I have been tempted to do a jar quilt myself. I have to sit down and go over who is getting what for Christmas. Set goals now so I can actually meet them and sleep too. I always start way too late and the rush is .. ahhh. A jar quilt.. hum...

quazyquilter 02-06-2010 02:54 PM

I love it! Kinda makes me hungry, gonna go check out the fridge...

Lockeb 02-06-2010 02:55 PM

This one would be a great idea for a gift..they make up rather fast...no tiny pieces...and really you can just have fun with it...the little cloth is simply a half 9 in. square sewing into the seam when the shelf was added....

Lockeb 02-06-2010 02:55 PM

Actually, that may be why I finished it - I'm hungry as well..time to eat soon...:-)

Chrys 02-06-2010 03:01 PM

redquilter 02-06-2010 03:05 PM

Adorable. I love jar quilts. Made a few of them and have "innards" for a few more. Will have to get busy on them again.

quazyquilter 02-06-2010 03:06 PM

You know the saying.. don't go grocery shopping when you're hungry? Well, Bill please don't put food oriented projects on when it's around mealtime, you'll start an eating frenzy!!! :-D

barnbum 02-06-2010 03:09 PM

QuiltingGrannie 02-06-2010 04:15 PM

Love it! Gives me ideas to do my own. I've seen the bugs in a jar, but not the food. Love the hanging cloth idea too! Great job.

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 02-06-2010 04:32 PM

I saw some of those fabrics when I was out yesterday and immediately thought of jars, too. The fabric is so realistic. You did a great job.

jewelps 02-06-2010 04:42 PM

It would be cute to use a crochet doily instead of the fabric hanging off the shelf.

Lockeb 02-06-2010 07:13 PM

Yep, I was thinking about the doily also - but I was too lazy this afternoon to get out my container where I have all of my lace pieces stored....so I grabbed a piece of check and finished it off :-)....
Thanks to everyone for the comments...it was a fun piece...now I really do want to do another....I have a friend Gill who did the big full quilt that looks just like a food closet - absolutely stunning..I would love to do a full size with all different ones like vegetables, fruits, candies.....
One day I want to do one that is sewing room based with the button jars, books, etc.
Now I just need to finish this one... :-)

Chele 02-06-2010 07:19 PM

So cute! I love the towel/napkin hanging down! You are so clever!

nana of 8 02-06-2010 07:23 PM

Sew cute!

nursie76 02-06-2010 07:26 PM

That is the cutest jar quilt I've ever seen! Did you have a pattern?

Lockeb 02-06-2010 07:47 PM

Thanks!!!!
Yes, I found a pattern at a quilt shop in Plattsburgh, NY called LOOSE THREADS....some time ago - and I can't take the whole credit for the little cloth hanging down - it was something that the pattern suggested :-).....I did change the way I finished it with the borders, the types of fabrics and prints.....
The pattern is called JARS A PLENTY....a fun project!

nursie76 02-06-2010 07:49 PM

Thanks! It is really awesome!

jljack 02-06-2010 08:18 PM

bstanbro 02-07-2010 12:15 PM

I just finished a jar quilt too. It's off to the quilters. Will post it when it comes back. I loved this pattern. So many things you can do with it. I like your idea with the corner of the tablecloth (napkin) hanging off the shelf. Very clever.
