Last fall my husband and 2 sons renovated an old shed in our backyard ....just for me. The room is 16' x 26' with 2 lofts (for storage) on either side of room. I painted the walls a shade lighter than daffadils and the trim white. The space got totally rewired, insulated, new floor, new lights, etc. Believe it or not, almost all of the furniture got dragged out of the house or barn (leftovers from the kids rooms, parents, etc.). The TV (good only for movies, not hooked up to cable) is there because my husband got a plasma. I did buy a dropped leaf table from a resale shop (opens 5'x5'). I reupholster furniture as a hobby, crochet afghans (frenzied sometimes) and now quilt.
I love fabrics. Most fabric I buy on ebay (esp upholstery fabrics), some at shops.

I was spread out over 3 rooms upstairs and reupholstered furniture in the living room. Now my upstairs has lovely guest rooms again and I reclaimed my living room.

I love this space...so peaceful, so inviting, etc.
I'm so grateful that my men did this for me, so that I could have my own wonderful retreat.

I have lots of pics.

Very nice "woman cave" for sewing and retreating in. Happy for you too. Looks to me like the only think lacking is a few WIPs and the mess they make. :) Hope you enjoy your new space.

Congradulations on your new space! I enjoyed your pictures. My DH is fixing me a room in the basement but it will not be ready for six months. I am collecting ideas. I love your lofts!!

Just gotta say, "That is about the best little slice of heaven I've ever seen." You have everything! If Barbie was a quilter, her studio would look like yours.

dellareya 03-27-2011 06:13 PM

How special to have a room for yourself. You did a beautiful job making it "your" space. I am green with envy.

Love all the natural light! Also noticed your wonderful yarn collection - I assume you are a knitter also? Thanks for sharing your photos - I enjoyed them.

That is soooo beautiful!! What a wonderful family you have to do this for you. A retreat all your own....

And I notice that you have a china cabinet exactly like mine. Exactly. Mine belonged to my MIL, painted a 1930's shade of green, but I refinished it many years ago.

congrats on your sewing room!

stacey65 03-27-2011 06:46 PM

This is actually an old pie safe I think....it has several circular cutouts on the sides covered with mesh that are original. Its never been refinished. I have no idea how old as I have never researched it. We used it as a TV cabinet (removed doors) for about 30 years. The new plasma didn't even begin to fit and My Space inherited the cabinet. I store trims, books, zippers, lace, etc inside.

Mostly crochet...afghans.

JanetM 03-27-2011 06:54 PM

What a fantastic studio you have. I am :hunf: green with envy. If I had a studio like that my husband would have to drag me out of it to come back to the house.
