Ok, so the medics arrived and slapped me silly! I showed them the fab. pix you sent and they said they would send you my ambulance bill. They said you should have known this would happen. ROFL. Oh crap now they need medical attention...what to do??? What to do !

AlaskaSunshine, you made me laugh !
I will post a few other pictures, but please, don't call the doctor again ! I save every penny for my quilts, I don't have money for doctors :) !

Thank you everyone for the kind comments. I am so happy you like my quilts. In my country there are not too many people who would appreciate them. We have no quilting tradition here.

My pattern will be ready in 3 weeks. I will post about this on my blog.

I made these shadow trapunto quilts during 1.5 years. It is unbelievable how much experience I have gained working from a project to another one.
And I designed them all using Electric Quilt. I have a tutorial on this here:

I am sorry about my mistakes in English ! :(

And these are the pictures (the most spectacular you already saw).

I just tried one as a sample and it's really really cool!

Maybe I should have chosen something with a bit fewer little spaces because they're really hard to cut out. It was a lot of fun!

k3n 05-08-2009 09:28 AM

You just tried that Melanie? Wow, it's great! Was it hard to do?

well, I can't say it was hard, but I'm not sure I was doing it exactly right, I had a really really hard time clipping the extra batting without clipping the organza on top. Plus it was really hard to get right on the edge without accidentally cutting the outline thread.

I re-did the same pattern but it reverse, like, I traced out my symbol and cut it out of my fabric, like a negative of the last one, and placed it over my batting, then put my organza on top and quilted away. It worked much much better, but I'm not sure I could do that on a big item like a quilt. I'll keep playing around with it, and in a few weeks when the patterns and instructions are out, I'll get those from Geta.

Geta 05-08-2009 10:51 AM

Melanie, did you sleep last night ? That little piece is great. As you will practice you will gain more experience.

If you clip the organza, don't be afraid. Organza is so sheer so after quilting the hole will not be noticed ( I know because a few times I clipped mine).

If you cut the outline thread and that piece of batting don't want to stay in its place, you can stitch it by hand (or use a little glue).

My mouth is still hanging open!!!!!!

Geta, your art is spectacular. Thank you so much for sharing a little bit

of your talent.

sandpat 05-08-2009 03:17 PM

Geta, love the new pics you added and I'm waiting for your instructions on your blog. I'll mark my calendar. It appears that the technique is just like how I learned to do machine quilt only you use organza on the top. I've also seen shadow trapunto done using regular muslin...of course the bottom fabric is a really strong color and shows through almost as a pastel. Interesting.

I'm IN LOVE with your bags now!!! The shadow trapunto really lends itself to them.

AtHomeSewing 05-08-2009 04:57 PM

Butterflyspain 05-09-2009 07:06 AM

I just caught up with this thread and there was a sharp intake of breath and as I looked I nearly forgot to let it out again. Those are simply stunning and I am waiting with baited breath for your patterns to come out. Think you are going to be a very rich lady someday soon, youso deserve it.

The handbags are beautfiul too, perhaps I could do a little job like that, not sure about a whole quilt though.

Mousie 05-09-2009 06:15 PM

I like the idea of doing a tote bag or pillow, but what I want to know is, are they fragile? I'd hate to do all that work, and then catch the organza on something, and rip the face of the bag. thanks.
Oh, and need I even say...anything, that hasn't already been said, here...gorgeous work! :D

SewSew2 05-09-2009 11:41 PM

Absolutely stunning. I don"t think I would have the patience.

DA Mayer 05-10-2009 06:25 AM

I have a pattern from years ago for this technique but I was too intimidated to try it, You have perfected it. Lovely.

Carol W 05-10-2009 03:47 PM

Beautiful!

QuiltyLisa 05-11-2009 03:29 PM

all as I can say is WOW!!!!

kwhite 05-11-2009 04:35 PM

Question: do you have the feed dogs on the batting when you are sewing the organza? Doesn't the feed dogs chew at the batting?

GiGi 05-12-2009 03:12 AM

You are truly talented. Your work is the best I have ever seen. Congratulations on mastering this technique. Beautiful work. Do you sell the purses? GiGi

kwhite 05-12-2009 04:04 PM

bump

GiGi 05-12-2009 04:58 PM

What does bump mean? GiGi

kwhite 05-12-2009 05:30 PM

If you notice when you add anything to a thread the thread goes to the top of the recient threads list. When a thread has not been touched for a while it will drop off the list all together. Bump means someone is trying to keep it on the list by bumping it to the top of the list again. Hence "bump"

Quiltntime 05-12-2009 05:38 PM

WOW! I'm speechless.
