my sister's colorful quilt top-Any quilting suggestions?

1 Attachment(s)
My sister 2 states away just finished this today. Next time she comes for a visit, she will want me to longarm it for her. I need suggestions for thread color and for quilting. I am finally accomplishing tolerable feathers and I just finished a class on feather alternatives. I can comfortably do loopy swirly feathery things as well as some flowers. For thread color, I have bright yellow, red, and blue threads, think primary colors. I also have turquoise, plum, sage green, off white, navy, brown, tan, and some pastels. I kind of want to go with one of the primary colors. Any suggestions?

She calls it her Happy quilt because she loves the bright colors and felt happy while working on it. Yellow thread for sunshine and happiness?

Beautiful quilt!!!! Variegated thread???

weasier22 08-05-2013 05:22 PM

WOW - great job!!

barny 08-05-2013 05:27 PM

What if you went down each color with wavy lines with matching thread?

Misty's Mom 08-05-2013 05:29 PM

Great quilt

Tartan 08-05-2013 05:30 PM

Wow, that's a beautiful top! I think I might follow the pattern to do a diamond crosshatch.

Sauki1 08-05-2013 05:30 PM

If the back is black, I would do a yellow or a primary varigated.

Old_Rosebud 08-05-2013 05:53 PM

Variegated thread for sure! I would also call it a happy quilt. Love the colors!

Beautiful quilt. I love the colors.

Beautiful quilt.

Wow! That is one beautiful quilt. I think I would use variegated thread to quilt it. I really truly love it.

DogHouseMom 08-05-2013 06:48 PM

I'm kind of thinking baptist fan with a variegated grey thread.

dunster 08-05-2013 06:56 PM

I agree with variegated thread, but get some that's really colorful. Or maybe use a gold thread... That is a GORGEOUS quilt top.

Mariposa 08-05-2013 06:58 PM

Wowser! Think I'd use a variegated thread in primaries~

bepositive 08-05-2013 07:01 PM

I'm not sure what advice I could give, but I REALLY love the top!!! :) Whatever you decide to do will look gorgeous!

quiltsRfun 08-05-2013 07:17 PM

Yes, that definitely is a happy quilt. Made me happy too. Thanks for sharing. I think a variegated would be a good choice as well.

tessagin 08-05-2013 07:24 PM

Definitely yellow!

bjchad 08-05-2013 08:28 PM

I'd be tempted to do spirals in varying sizes to pick up the round motif in the blue fabric. Maybe start on top of those in the fabric and work out. Or if you want to be really fancy, do the wiggly lines as suggested elsewhere but throw in spirals as an interruption. No suggestion on color.

Absolutely variegated thread -- its a gorgeous quilt!

QM 08-05-2013 09:04 PM

I think I would use yellow or variegated. As for pattern, the quilt is so busy. (and very happy, indeed) that I think a meander would be the best bet.

nanacc 08-05-2013 09:07 PM

I vote for the variegated, also. I have a great one in primary colors! Sis made a beautiful and happy quilt!

grammysharon 08-05-2013 09:22 PM

I agree, variegated thread would be awesome, and I love the "happy quilt!!!!!!QUOTE=Old_Rosebud;6217545]Variegated thread for sure! I would also call it a happy quilt. Love the colors![/QUOTE]

rebeljane 08-05-2013 11:25 PM

That is stunning!

fien777 08-06-2013 01:43 AM

wow...love it!!!!!

Diane007 08-06-2013 03:26 AM

wow great colour

You have to ask yourself do you want to see the colours in the quilt or the quilting or both.
Once you have made up your mine then you will know how to quilt your top.
Stitch in the ditch.. you will see the colours in the quilt
Or any of the above if you want to see the quilting.

Have fun

alfosa421 08-06-2013 03:50 AM

Sorry .no suggestions on quilting but wow! What a stunning quilt!

gabeway 08-06-2013 04:16 AM

Gorgeous quilt! I agree with Minimal about variegated thread.

Quilter 65 08-06-2013 04:41 AM

That is definitely a happy quilt. Brings a smile to my face so bright and cheery.

mighty 08-06-2013 06:39 AM

Beautiful !!!!!

#1piecemaker 08-06-2013 06:43 AM

Beautiful quilt. How about quilting in white to showcase your quilting? What color backing will you be using? Maybe the same color of thread as it?

Caroline S 08-06-2013 06:49 AM

I agree with the suggestions to use variegated thread. Simple wavy quilting would work as the quilt is very busy.

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 08-06-2013 07:19 AM

I'm in no way qualified to give advice on color selection, but I did want to say it is a wonderful quilt. Please share it again when you have it quilted.

IzzysGrammie 08-06-2013 07:21 AM

Since I'm fairly new at making quilts, I can't really suggest much but I like the idea of using variegated thread with this beautiful work of art!

craftynell 08-06-2013 08:21 AM

Love the colors!!!

Jingle 08-06-2013 10:07 AM
