My 7 year old son (never stop going) Emmanuel made two pictures. He then asked me to make them into quilts. The house was made the exact same size using a copy of his picture as templates. The second one I just used as inspiration and guide. He "allowed" me to change the leaves because he wanted a tulip but drew the leaves of a rose and also he let me add some trapunto around the frame.

My version of the house after he selected the fabrics

What a fun thing to do.

Those are great, and I love the fact that he asked you to make them in quilts. I think you have a budding fabric artist in the house

How awesome is that. Such a treasure.

What a fun idea. I'm going to see my grandchildren this week, I think I will see if they want to do this. I love your quilt hanger on the first one :)

Maride 04-03-2010 05:37 PM

Is actually a pant hanger. I put it there to display and ended up keeping it there. I like how it looks.

What a wonderful way to preserve his artwork. I think you may have inspired many Moms and Grandmas to do the same with their kids/grandkids. You did a great job and you have a very special quilt designer. :-D

How precious

rein 04-03-2010 06:44 PM

What a super thing for you to do! He will be so proud some day. I wish I were talented enough to go through some of the pictures I have from my boys and grandkids and do something like this.... I may try, but doubt I have the talent you do. Thanks so much for the pics and sharing - and ideas too even if I feel totally intimidated.

dkabasketlady 04-03-2010 06:46 PM

He has. Now he wants every picture to be made into a quilt. I will make a few more because I plan to offer it as a service on my web page. Two friends have already asked me to make quilts out of their kids drawings. Isn't it great? Every quilt is an unique piece. That is what I have been doing mostly so far. I rarely do a pattern as intended, and now my designers are very special little people.

RedGarnet222 04-04-2010 07:19 AM

How sweet! I love that he asked you to make it into little quilts.

shopbelt 04-04-2010 07:51 AM

What an awesome idea!!!! Do you mind if I steal it? I'd love to do one with my grands.
