I was inspired by Eddie to give this a whirl, so I'm blaming it all on him..........working with some of these tiny pieces was so much harder than I anticipated.....If you don't look too closely it looks ok......Now for the quilting....

Of course, now that the picture is up I can see where I sewed one whole strip upside down. Oh well.......Apparently I'm going to have one backwards thing per quilt....

DebraK 02-14-2010 06:12 PM

Never apologize for challenging your self. I like it. Can't wait to see the finish ;-)

earthwalker 02-14-2010 06:12 PM

I think it looks wonderful...great colours and everything looks very well matched up to me. Well done, don't forget to show us when you have finished.

sewsewquilter 02-14-2010 06:23 PM

There are no mistakes. Only learning experiences. We need to push our self out of the comfy little boxes. It's how we grow. I need to post my snowman quilt I make. It's a quilt only the maker of the quilt could love. Yes, I was living outside of my box. By the way your quilt is very cute.

littlehud 02-14-2010 06:25 PM

I think it looks just fine. Finish it and love it. You did a great job.

wichypoo 02-14-2010 06:30 PM

Not-so-sorry to me, I like it. I can see no mistakes.
I am challenging myself with a stack and whack class.
So I know where you are coming from.
Please be encouraged that you Did it, you Completed it, and
we love all love it.

drivingsusan 02-14-2010 06:47 PM

I, too think you did great! If it were mine I would make no apologies! It is wonderful!

Eddie 02-14-2010 06:52 PM

Hi, BK! This looks great, just looks like you got turned around there in one place. Do you have a seam ripper? It should only take just a few minutes to rip that row out and flip it around the other way.

Your colors are really nice in this, I like anything that uses blues and yellows together like that. How big is the whole thing?

redquilter 02-14-2010 06:54 PM

I think it looks terrific!

Lockeb 02-14-2010 06:59 PM

FABULOUS!!!!!!! GREAT JOB!

Crlyn 02-14-2010 07:36 PM

I love it, your colours are great. I'd rip that line out and fix, just so you will feel better about it.

Beautiful!! :-D

LucyInTheSky 02-14-2010 07:47 PM

I really like the colors in this. They blend really well together

dkabasketlady 02-14-2010 07:52 PM

I love the colors and what a great job for your first attempt of a Bargello!

BKinCO 02-14-2010 09:13 PM

Yep, I can't stand it............it's coming apart tomorrow!

Barb_MO 02-14-2010 10:40 PM

Way to go gal...you will be so glad that you decided to rip and redo....then it will be perfect!
The next one will be a lot easier.

jewelps 02-14-2010 10:43 PM

upside down or not it still looks great, i haven't tried one yet

omak 02-15-2010 12:09 AM

Well, GOOD SHOW! I am proud of you, and know that it is only a matter of time before you do another one.
Yes, the seams were difficult on the small/tiny strips, but our minds are so wonderful! As soon as your brain figured out that it wasn't all that easy? It began trying to come up with a solution, because (whichever side is reasonable) is telling the part (that is creative) that it has been done before, hence it can be done again ... and, we all know that the first time is always scarey, but the second time - - a snap!
Trust me like an old woman who has lots of time to sit around egging everyone else on! LOL
Honestly, it is only one strip, and it isn't too hard to take out and turn around is it?
Tell you what ... send it to me, I will take it out for you and send it back to you to sew back together .... seriously! If it will help, I can do it! <wave>

omak 02-15-2010 12:12 AM

and, then, the old woman goes back and reads what everyone else wrote <sigh> I am NEVER going to learn, am I? :?

amma 02-15-2010 01:23 AM

Ooooo very pretty!!! You took on the challenge and succeeded very nicely:D:D:D

rootyr 02-15-2010 03:29 AM

Great work in trying something new!

lisalovesquilting 02-15-2010 03:35 AM

I think it's beautiful. Love your color choices.

springtime 02-15-2010 04:32 AM

First attempt??? WOW it is lovely! Great job. I thought the upside down piece was on purpose. lol. no apologies are necessary.

Crafty1 02-15-2010 04:40 AM

I think it looks great especially for the first time! Get er done   :)

barnbum 02-15-2010 04:55 AM

I could have made up a story for the first one. Something about the abrupt changes nature provides... but now you're changing it... I can't wait to see the next chapter. Bravo to you for trying something new!

raptureready 02-15-2010 05:59 AM

Looks fine to me. I haven't even attempted one yet. I recently had a woman tell me not to use a different color for my cornerstones (I'd run out of the color that I'd used in my blocks and it wasn't available anymore) She said that I'd look at the finished product and think "That's where I had to substitute." I thought about that and realized that no, I'd look at the finished product and think "Wow, I finally finished that and it's beautiful!" Your's might not look like someone else's but that's okay and wonderful--it's not supposed to be an exact copy, it's supposed to individually yours.

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 02-15-2010 06:54 AM

I like your colors! And yes, those 1 inch strips are a bit of a bugger, aren't they? It's just such fun to lay the strips out and see what happens.

I know what you mean about blaming Eddie. He makes everything look easy!

nativetexan 02-15-2010 08:27 AM

Hey! you did that upside down strip on purpose just to see if anyone would notice! great quilt anyway hon.

Katrine 02-15-2010 08:31 AM

That's really striking, the colours are wonderful. Change that strip - you have a great quilt - I havent attempted one of these yet.

How sweet of you to offer to unsew for her. :) I love the quilt, think it looks beautiful and it's going to be a tough decision to take it out or not.

Well, Omak :) As I sit here ripping out the strips I'm wishing I had taken you up on your generous offer :) But, I have one off and resewn properly. One more to go.....I really do think it's going to be worth it in the end. And, if nothing else, I have learned SO MUCH from this experience. I will know much better next time! And thank you for your lovely offer !!! It's one of those hard lessons I need to learn for myself! Hopefully tonight I will have the "repaired" version up to show everyone!

BKinCO 02-15-2010 09:11 AM

One down, one to go..............it'll be worth it...........it'll be worth it............(like the little engine that could ;))

Quilter7x 02-15-2010 09:14 AM

Let us all see when you're done - we already know it's going to be beautiful! :D

Jamie 02-15-2010 09:34 AM

Hey I think it's great! And just because you don't think it matches up to a specific pattern, it doesn't mean it isn't a 1 of a kind piece of creative art...Art isn't perfection, it is expression.

Tallulah 02-15-2010 09:38 AM

In my head, I am a perfectionist. In my work, I am not. I will look at things and plan how it should go and can still make silly mistakes. Rip it out and fix it and I will let you compete for my title of the "Unsewing Queen!"

Challenges stretch us and make us grow. You have a beautiful piece of work. I bought the Piecemakers' Bargello book and haven't tried it yet. I want to, though.

Rachel 02-15-2010 09:39 AM

I think it looks awesome. I started a bargello. Unfortunately, I bit off more than I could chew (I decided to cut my strips on the bias), its a quilt as you go, so it's starting to look kinda pregnant... but I got it straightened out, although it'll never go in for judging. tee hee If I ever finish it, I'll post pics.

Sugarpumpkin 02-15-2010 09:56 AM

I love your quilt! I think it's fantastic!

Stormeejean 02-15-2010 10:11 AM

Hey it looks better than my first attempt. Keep trying.

Brenda Retzlaff 02-15-2010 01:46 PM

Bargellos are challenging but after attempting that, everything else you do will seem easy. It is lovely and your colors are georgeous.

zz-pd 02-15-2010 04:04 PM

very nicley done!

tlrnhi 02-15-2010 04:08 PM

I think it looks great!
