:D :D :D :D I got this done today and I think I might use black fabric for the background and then I have no idea what I'll applique' on it. No too bad of a job if I say so myself. I could make it into a table topper and there are patterns for Christmas tree skirts and I might make one later when they start putting out Christmas fabrics. Enjoy, Huggies, Fay if any of you have any ideas. Let me know. enjoy

I bought the book Quilts with out corners and the 10 deree ruler with the extension. Ok what you do is choose the fabrics, some times this is as hard as a project is. LOL! This one calls for 4 colors. You cut 8 strips from each color measuring 2 3/4" x with of the fabric. Note: the fabric should be at least 54 to 56" wide from salvage to salvage or you won't get 9 wedges cut from your stradas. Yeppers, you make 4 stradas, but you will have to piece another 10" to your strips before making the stradas so they will be long enough. The pattern shows where the colors go and such. After all the wedges are cut, then you lay out the spiral circle and the pattern gives the starting of it as to which way to go. I did mine backwards cuz I'm left handed so things are backwards for me. But you might get the idea. Any way, you sew 9 wedges together and the next 9 and then the next 9 and there are 4 sections to the circle. Almost like a huge dresden plate. I wanted to put a mini spiral circle in the middle, but could not get it to sew with out it vocanoing on me and I tried 3 tomes so I put a black on on the center and I still might applique' some thing on it too. In the book there is the same spiral circle and you can make it into a Christmas tree skirt. There is another pattern for one on the carboard the ruler comes on. you can use the extension for the ruler to make a 70" circle. I think this one is about 42" , perfect fpr a table topper. Any whoo I bought the book and ruler from www.softexpression.com There is a bargello in the round I want to try also. It is made with the tube method, but you cut wedges and then sew it in the round. It calls for about 8 colors so I'm going to have to start collecting some. Have a great day, Huggies, Fay... Oh when I ordered my book and ruler, it was on back order and I had to wait 2 weeks or more before it came and it came yesterday.

Wow, that is very good for a first try ! Love the colors. Can't wait to see how you finish it off.

Gramyx7 10-03-2010 07:57 PM

I like the colors.. You could use it as a Christmas tree skirt, or keep going and make it into a table cloth.. that would be beautiful...and unique...:)

amma 10-03-2010 08:04 PM

cjomomma 10-03-2010 08:10 PM

This is so Cool....I love it
I am heading over to soft expressions to check out the book.
I think it would make a neat pillow if you could find a form big enough. I never have luck stuffing my own, they end up lumpy.

pennyj123 10-03-2010 08:20 PM

Thanks for sharing your picture and the instructions you did an awesome job!

Bobbinchick 10-03-2010 08:37 PM

I have both the 9 degree ruler and the 10 degree ruler with the extension. you should be able to use the 9 degree ruler for some of these projects too. Huggies, Fay...Oh I figured out why my mini spiral center volcanoed on me, it's because I didn't cut 9 little spiral , I only cut 8 and got the dreded volcano effect so tomorrow I will cut one out again and maybe applique' it over the black center and that will really make it show off. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Great idea. Well gotta take a shower and go to bed. Good night

dglvr 10-03-2010 08:44 PM

It's the book with the round black quilt with the butterfly on it , now some where on that site they have a combo where you can get the 10 degreeruler with extension along with the book. That is what I got and one good idea too is that if you wanted to make a floor cushion, you can buy foam by the yard at the Joann fabrics and cut a big circle and make the quilt and put in a zipper so you can take out the foam when you wash it. Lots of ideas comming to mind now. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Huggies, Fay

Yeppers, it's nice over here. What part of Port Angeles are you inlaws in? I live on Peabody street across the street from the Senior Center. I can walk to town and the beach from where I live and bus fare is cheap also, but the Quilted Strait moved to Port Gamble. We were over there about a week ago or so and I bought some varigated thread in fall colors to quilt my bargello that I made. I still have to finish that and a couple of Christmas table runners yet along with this quilt. I have some black fabric and I'm guessing that I will do some applique' on the black boarders and see how that will look. I guess I'll make it inot a lap quilt. Every one take care and have a great night. Time for me to hit the sack, HUggies, Fay

Beautiful job! Is the pattern called Circle of Illusions? I did one about 5 years ago as a dare...it measured 118" x 120". I appliqued graduating sized hummingbirds and morning glories to mine. I must get DH to take a picture so I can post it. Anyway, you did a great job, congratulations!

Ditto. Mine is still in the packaging stuck in the back of my notions closet, probably growing cobwebs. Bravo, Bobbinchick.

No it's called Speedy Spiral. It's from the book Quilts Without Corners. I'm going to make this into a lap quilt. Now that I know why the mini sprials volcanoed on my I can remake those and maybe put some in the corners after I get this done. Have a great day, Huggies, Fay
