Soooo.... I accidentally returned my youngest son's school library book to one of the public libraries.... and had to go and retrieve it last night so it could go to the proper place... While I was there, I asked the librarian if they got any quilting magazines and she said no but that someone had dropped off several boxes of quilting books and they were mostly already priced for their book sale. She asked if I would like to go through them - how could I resist??

I spent an even $20 and here is what I took home... mind you I was very picky. There were so many really fabulous books there. I called my mother on my way out and she asked why I didn't buy all of them and resell them on Ebay...

Anyhoo.... Here's what I got...

Folded Fabric Fun
Asian Fabric (it has an amazing geisha pattern in it!)
Great American Quilts Book 4
Rotary Magic
Off Center Patchwork
Optical Illusions for Quilters
Magic Quilts by the Slice
Magic Pillows, Hidden Quilts
Easy Paper Pieced Baby Quilts
Needles & Notions
Learn to Make a Foundation-Pieced Quilt
Easy Paper Pieced Keepsake Quilts
Hall & Haywood's Foundation Quilts
Paper Pieced Flowers
Paper Piece a Merry Christmas
Victorian Quilt Block Designs the Foundation Piecing Library
Quilting Made Easy the Foundation Piecing Library

I'm still giddy...
Can you tell that I'm really interested in Foundation Piecing right now?
There were a few books that were on my wish list that I was able to score. I'm wishing that all of my wish list was there but hey, I still think I spent my $20 wisely...

And yes, I'm thinking of going back and looking through them a second time this afternoon!! I have to go back in to town so I can hit the other Hancock's since the first one didn't have enough boxes of fluff for me - I go through fluff a lot with my crochet designing...

sueisallaboutquilts 09-17-2010 05:28 AM

Wow, you can't even get ONE for that price!!!
Okay, see you in a few months!! lol

litacats 09-17-2010 06:00 AM

WELL DONE i LOVE IT WHEN SOMEONE SCORES WELL

SharonAnne 09-17-2010 06:18 AM

Excellent!!!!!! I just took a PP class and would love to have some of those "finds" and patterns. Have sew much fun, OK?

Kathy N 09-17-2010 06:22 AM

You should buy them all and sell us the ones you don't need....it will benefit your library and give you enough $$ to buy your fluff!!!!

Bubblegum0077 09-17-2010 06:34 AM

I agree with Kathy N. What a deal and there's no hurt in helping out a fellow quilter and yourself at the same time. Enjoy.

What is "fluff"? I have not heard that term used before. Thanks!!

Yarn or Fabric 09-17-2010 12:17 PM

Janice, fluff is fiberfill lol. I call it fluff.
I go through a lot of fluff in my designs. I just bought 3 boxes of it at 53% off so I'll be set for about a half year or so... I bought the big 5 pound boxes...

I was going to go back there today - but a friend of mine called and said she was sad - she went to the library and the person there wouldn't let her look through the books... they said the woman just dropped off another box of them and they need to be priced and for her to come back on Monday... I might need to take an early afternoon venture over there Monday after getting cleaned up. :D

I still can't believe I was able to get these. I don't happen upon super awesome deals often - and this one was the jackpot for me!

There were just soooo many to pick from!

Lynneander 09-17-2010 12:52 PM

I can only imagine the beautiful pieces you are going to create!

ToucanSam 09-17-2010 12:55 PM

Great find!!!!!!!!!!!

And, just for fun, check the price of Rotary Magic on ebay, if they have one listed. Last time I saw, it was about 50 bucks. (Fortunately for me, I had a copy!)

:)

Mariposa 09-17-2010 01:09 PM

Great find! Keep you reading for a bit!

Oh no way!! I did check - and there's a few listings for it - ranging from $22 to $46 Ouch!

I told hubby that I should buy them all and resell them on Ebay... I could turn $100 in to $1000 easily I'm sure. There were some pretty awesome books there - although all the ones on making quilted vests and jackets I could seriously do without lol.

littlehud 09-17-2010 01:28 PM

Wow, what a find. You sure did hit a jackpot. What a lucky trip to the library.

Congratulaions on your bargain. I received a phone call today from my sister who still lives in our hometown in central Illinois. An old family friend of ours, in fact she is like my second mother is in her 80's and going to a retirement home. She cleaned out her house and came across books of quilting and crocheting. She called my sister and she went after them.

Sis kept the corchet books as I don't do that and she does and she said I have a medium size box of quilting magazines/books.....some are old ones. I can't wait to get them!

pookie ookie 09-17-2010 02:59 PM

Wow. I can't tell you how many library sales I've been to and I've never seen a single sewing book. Not one. You hit the motherload.

GrammaNan 09-17-2010 04:27 PM

Unbelievable! You did hit the jackpot. If you are going to sell any of them, you should try this board first. We are your friend for goodness sakes!!! I hope you enjoy the books.

mimee4 09-18-2010 05:08 AM

Hooray for the librarian, telling you about the books. You made a great haul.

sewnsew 09-18-2010 05:12 AM

Looks like Christmas came early to your house !!! Lucky you !! Nothing better than curling up with a new quilt book on a cold night ! Enjoy !

carhop 09-18-2010 06:49 AM

Chatfield 09-18-2010 07:07 AM

grannypat7925 09-18-2010 07:28 AM

What a wonderful bargain!!! Congrats!

pinebeltquilter 09-18-2010 01:34 PM

the person that priced those books must not be a quilter.

MamaBear61 09-18-2010 04:08 PM

Wow, SCORE!!!!

Yarn or Fabric 09-18-2010 04:57 PM

I went back to the library today. The info my friend had gotten was not correct - they did not get a new box of books in... there were 3 other ladies going through the books. I did find 2 more that I wanted - a book on paper piecing hearts and flowers as well as a book on Japanese inspired quilt designs. I spent $2.25 for both books :D

I am looking forward to starting on some of the paper piecing projects :) I am going to begin with an easy project and work my way up....

sewnsewer2 09-18-2010 05:10 PM

Yep, I'd say you hit the jackpot! Congrats!
