I started this quilt when my sister found out she was pregnant..That was 2001

Ben is now 9 and i finished it this summer. I put it in the mail this morning to her. She thinks i forgot it and has no idea it's on its way.

My mom flew down there today and will get to see my sister open it up.

I planned it that way all along!! Yup - that's my story and i'm sticking to it!!

i quilt on this frame...It is approx 24x 36 and is perfect for sitting in my office..Computer next to me to keep up on here, TV in viewing site, and the ability to keep quilting.

I bought the frame about 10 yrs ago at a quilting show. The legs fold up, so i can take it places if wanted. For smaller quilts like my sister's, I didn't baste - I just started in the center & worked my way out.

However, when it came time to quilt the corners, they were wonky. Basting would have kept them more square.

One reason why it took so long to finish was because i ended up not being able to see the quilting pattern on the blue and i lost interest. No pencil would work...I ended up doing straight line stitching on the diagonal - marking it w/ tape. I learned to keep my stitching patterns simple or be able to see it w/ a lead pencil

Ben is my sister's one & only - he was born a few days before her 40th birthday! I have fallen in love w/ the rag quilts - and i think for next Christmas, each of my nephews (3 of them) will get one.

Thanks for the compliments - It was fun to put together!

If someone was a good builder - i would think it would be easy to reproduce...

The quilt is one my aunt hand pieced back in the 50s or 60s. She doesn't realize i'm finishing it for her. She'll be surprised. I'm about 2/3 done and started it in August....Moving quicker on this one :-P
