I love your `ugly` quilt. It looks great~~ good job.
Not ugly at all..very creatively interesting though. I like it.
The apples just pop out. Name the quilt something like "Apples in the attic" and no one will be the wiser. It really is a fun quilt.
I love it...it is not ugly...you should see some of mine.....but they are warm and comfey....nothing like a quilt ....
It's not ugly, I like it. of course, I like bright and happy colors.
Well, here goes. I hope you won't all hate me. Plus, I've yet to post my first quilt so who am I too talk! Yes, I do think it is slightly unattractive. Ugly is too strong of a word. If you must use ugly please be gentle and know that it is (in the word's of my son at four years old) just a little bit ugly not a lot of big ugly. So what! I am still sewing one right side and one wrong side together on a fairly regular basis. I keep writing more here because if I stop I have to go in my quilting room and face one of the many projects I have started. I promise to post my first quilt and I want the truth!!
Is there such a thing as an ugly quilt? Enjoy it and it will remind you of that trip every time you use it
The Quilt Police might
come after you but only to take this BEAUTIFUL quilt for themselves. J J |
my quilt group went to the beach over Columbus day weekend and we always have a project, and this year it was the disappearing 9 patch. We made blocks, 2 each in opposing design, and then quarter cut them. thru all one design in a big basket and passed it around, then did it again with the other blocks, then we sewed them together just like yours. Real scrappy, I am putting Minkee on mine and it will be my snuggle quilt this winter. They say it is going to be cold and snowy in the Northwest this winter. so I will be ready!!! Jan

There is no such thing as an ugly quilt- some just have more "character" than others!
I love your quilt!! I`m am teaching myself to piece a quilt top and then on to hopefully quilting too.
I have alot of sewing experience from being a sewing machine operater and then on to seamstress ( 2 different jobs completely) anyway,,, could you please tell what a d9p is OR can you tell me where I could find out about it? Sorry so long of a post  Have a great weekend! rosie |
Hi rosie! I was told when I started quilting that garment sewing and quilting are different so throw out what you have done before and start anew.
A D9P is a Disappearing Nine Patch which is a go to pattern for quick, easy quilts. If you do a Search of the Board (see above links) for D9P you will get more than you wanted to know. :-D Here is one of them under tutorials that I like: http://www.psiquilt.com/2009/03/disa...ial-super.html judee |
Hey, it's bright, it's lively, and it makes you smile. What else could a quilter want?
I think it's beautiful!
Thanks so much for the info! I really understand what you said about my pryer experience :) This past summer my hubby and I had to put our little girldog to sleep. She was 131/2 and we had all those great years with her, so I started collect fabric to build up my `stash` again to help me thru this sad time and maybe some depression. I love this board alot. Sorry I was so long, and Thanks again so much! Have a great weekend! rosie

I love it.
I agree scrappy is never ugly. When my husband and I were married we were given a scrappy quilt as a wedding gift from a friend. I was 19 and wanted everything in my house to match....so I had no idea what to do with a scrappy quilt. It matched nothing. So I hid it in the linen closet. The old house we bought and remodeled slowly had NO heat the first winter and while freezing my butt off one day I dug out the scrappy quilt that I had forgotten about and curled up next to the fireplace....I was so warm and cozy that I lived in the quilt all winter. We spent many many hours reading Jane Austin together. After it warmed up I didn't have the heart to put her back in the closet, so she lived on the foot of my bed. Then the babies came she she stayed up many many nights rocking fussy babies, getting peed and pooped on. That quilt was my best friend. She slowly started falling apart and I had no idea how to fix her. I would do my best with a needle and thread but after I washed it she would be in pieces again.....but we still stuck together like glue. Then my poor old dog got sick and passed away. The three of us (scrappy quilt, the dog and me) spent many years together in front of the fire place. The night the dog was buried my quilt disappeared. At first I thought she ended up in the laundry room. After several days I decided there was no way my quilt was in the house. It took almost 6 months before I could ask my husband if he buried my quilt with the dog. It is because of that quilt I have set out on a mission to teach myself how to quilt. I miss her so much, you just don't get the same feel from the store bought quilts. I see a scrappy quilt and I feel all warm and fuzzy inside. That being said....I love your quilt it matches everything in your house! |
I like it very Nice.

I'll bet a lot of you out there hae ugly quilts too. Let's see them! C'Mon, be brave and help me to feel better. :-D
One of my quilt recipients, daughter's sister-in-law, said she couldn't imagine a nicer thing that one person could do for another than to make them a quilt. She didn't know I was a quilter when she said that to my daughter and their mother-in-law as she hadn't met me yet. |
You know what? I have to tell you that I don't find that ugly at all. It's bright (not my taste) but for some reason I really like it. It's NOT ugly.
I love scrappy quilts, yours is great.
I personally have never seen an ugly quilt. I happen to love the brightness of this particular one, It looks like a happy quilt. One that I would get out in the late winter/ early spring to snuggle up in when the air is still chilly, yet has a hint of warm days to come :)
I've seen ugly and that's not even close! :D
I like it.
Those are the best kind!!
It looks like an inviting quilt to snuggle up with. That would probably be one of my grandchildren's first pics to cover up with, it may even be one of my sons' first pics. I actually like the colors.

I think the wool, cordury and puckery one is ugly, but not the other two that were posted. Keep up the good work and I'm proud that you are using scraps. It has taken me over 5 years to get comfortable making scrappy quilts and now they are my favorite. I am a scrapaholic!!!

I love the scrappy quilts and yours looks great. Not ugly at all!!
