Here is a set of purple and green wine glass coasters I made for a christmas present. I added a special one for the wife who is a breast cancer survivor.

Those came out very nice!! The recipient should be very appreciative of these! You do great work!

raptureready 11-18-2010 08:42 AM

These are beautiful! I've made some like this that look like a 4patch and I've also folded the fabric into a triangle and made ones that look like hourglass blocks. Have you done any of those? It's done the exact same way only using the triangle fold. I like to take 4 and tie a ribbon (or if done in country fabrics a piece of ripped fabric) around them and give them as hostess gifts or anytime I need a small gift.

Those are so pretty. And I love the pink one. Great idea. They are going to love them. Thanks for sharing.

Susy 11-18-2010 08:45 AM

Those look greaYou just set the wine glass on top, right?(the base of the glass doesn't tuck in the folds, does it?)

magpie 11-18-2010 08:48 AM

Very nice gift idea. Pretty colors.

yes, with just a quick twist, the base of the glass goes into the folds and is tucked safely there.

Nana2Sew 11-18-2010 08:53 AM

These are very pretty .....and practical!

QuiltQtrs 11-18-2010 08:55 AM

This pattern works well for making hotpads .... just use 7" squares, folded,
and assemble in same manner. Another quickie "thank you" gift.

QuiltQtrs 11-18-2010 08:56 AM

Can you show photo of how the wine glass is inserted?

STAR 11-18-2010 09:18 AM

LOVE these! I got some as a pressie with one of my Doll quilts and I use them all the time, now I need more, lol

Deb watkins 11-18-2010 09:29 AM

Wowee, that is so cool. I just threw one together to try it and yes, a little twist and its in! I'm off to make a bunch for Xmas Eve, we have a big gang and all we drink is wine and we are forever putting ours down & then picking somebody else's by mistake. We also own a little brew your own wine store and I wanted to give a gift to some of our favourite/best customers.

Great looking coasters, I bet you had alot of fun making those.

4L 11-18-2010 01:37 PM

I like how you stitched around the edges after you turned the fold out.. I have not seen them done that way before...
It finishes them off so nicely...

reach for the stars 2 11-18-2010 01:39 PM

Those are great coasters.

wildyard 11-18-2010 01:53 PM

thanks for the kind words all. I like the edge stitched too, it just didn't look finished without it. Smilesssss.

hmmmm, I thought there already was one on here somewhere. If there isn't, even tho I've never made one before, I'd be happy to give it a try.
Would one of our expert searchers see if we have one?

wildyard 11-18-2010 07:33 PM

wow, I actually searched and FOUND something!!! Miracles do happen!!! LOL.. Here is a link to a tutorial for this type coaster. The only difference is they don't do the seam around the outside to finish it off. I prefer that nice touch, myself. You can add it or not as you please.

PS: There is some discussion as to whether to add something between the bottom and lining to absorb condensation. I did use a 3-3.5" (varied because it was scraps) piece of left over batting in mine.

Psychomomquilter 11-19-2010 05:38 AM

Nice!!

Donna P 11-19-2010 06:47 AM

Below is a link to a tutorial on Bethany Reynolds web site for some round Stack-n-Whack ones. Very pretty! They have been on my TO DO list for a long time.
